Tre Mason has been AWOL from the St. Louis Los Angeles Rams since the end of the 2015 season but he has still made headlines in that time. During a run-in with police, Mason’s mother told the cops that head injuries had left her son with the mentality of a 10-year-old.

On July 27, Mason has cited by cops for driving his ATV erratically. It was the sixth time cops had been called to deal with Mason in less than five months. Cops pursued him and he fled to his mother’s house, where he hid while they towed the ATV away.

During the incident, Mason’s mother responded to cops saying he “should be playing football” with the following:

"“No, he actually shouldn’t…There’s CTE and this head-injury thing. You can say he should be playing football, but this is not what it is.”"

Mason’s mother says that his family could see a change in him after the 2015 season.

On July 23, officers were called to Mason’s house after his family members complained of “bizarre and angry outbursts.” Mason claimed he was going to “call the White House” to fire the deputies who responded to the call and that the police were responsible for teaching Al-Qaeda how to fly planes.

Following that incident, Mason was “admitted for evaluation” but subsequently released.

If true, this is tragic. Mason entered the league with so much promise after a stellar career at Auburn. He was a third-round pick who many saw as a steal for the Rams. If his mother is correct, then just two years later Mason can barely function as an adult.
