Today, we were joined by former NFL tight end Ben Utecht. Utecht’s new book, “Counting the Days While My Mind Slips Away,” was released this week. It documents his life in football and his career at the University of Minnesota, and with the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals, his retirement due to his fifth concussion, his music career, and the challenges he has faced due to memory loss issues and cognitive impairment after his concussions.
Among the topics we discussed:
- A story about Peyton Manning and his preparation for the Super Bowl back in 2007;
- Ben’s thoughts on Carson Palmer (where they were teammates in Cincinnati) and his recent success in Arizona;
- Progress and work Ben has put in to helping his memory and cognitive issues;
- His music career;
- Where he goes from here.
Here is his music video, “You Will Always Be My Girls”:
