Addison Russell saved the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. With 2 outs and the bases loaded in the top of the 7th, Gregory Polanco hit a pop fly down the left field line that should have dropped between two or three fielders. Instead, Russell ran all the way from shortstop to make an incredible catch that probably saved three runs. You know it was a great play because of Russell’s fist pumping reaction. Anytime a baseball player reacts positively to something they, themselves, have done, you know it was awesome. Especially in the field.

The Cubs held their lead and went on to win 6-5. Thanks to Russell, they’re now 85-47 this season. Without this catch they may not have been able to maintain their 6-game lead on the Texas Rangers for the best record in baseball. The stakes have never been higher.
