Jared Goff, the #1 Pick LA Traded Up For, Opens #3 on the QB Depth Chart

Jared Goff has been a disaster this season for the LA Rams – and I’m not just talking about on Hard Knocks. If you’ve watched any preseason football, Goff has looked overwhelmed in every appearance, and this happened in his 4th game Thursday night:

"Goff’s next five third-down opportunities resulted in three consecutive overthrows, a bail-out throw short of the first-down marker and a muffed shotgun snap inside the Rams’ 10-yard line. His next throw after the lost fumble was tipped at the line of scrimmage and intercepted."

As a result, the #1 pick in the 2016 draft is going to open 3rd on the depth chart behind Case Keenum and Sean Mannion. Friendly reminder: The Rams traded up to get Goff.

That’s remarkable.

You got a sense things were bad when he admitted he hasn’t taken a snap under center since high school, and he hasn’t huddled up since high school, and then it showed on Hard Knocks. You’d think the Rams had done their homework and were aware of this, but apparently not.

LA and Fisher will spin this as “the best” for Goff – what’s the rush in bringing him along? The problem, of course, comes if Fisher and the Rams flop, and miss the playoffs (again) and he’s coaching for his job next year. Or worse yet – Fisher’s fired.

Then you get a new front office and coach and system and Goff has to press the reset button.

Any way you slice it, this is embarrassing for the franchise. [via NFL.com]
