Phil Brooks, a.k.a. CM Punk, will make his professional mixed martial arts debut on Saturday in Cleveland at UFC 203. On Friday morning he was subject to his first weigh-in and boringly passed the test by stepping on the scale at 170-pounds. Anyone following the last few days before Punk’s debut would have seen some hubbub this week that he might be having trouble making weight.
Punk had told MMA Fighting‘s Ariel Helwani that he had never done a weight cut before, had not gotten any help from professionals, and was not having fun. Perhaps it was gamesmanship. Who knows. All that matters is that it was boring which means he did it right and won’t have to give up part of his purse to young opponent Mickey Gall. Now Punk just has to show up tomorrow, having a boring fight and go cash his boring check.
