Saturday’s Ohio State-Oklahoma matchup will feature two of the best quarterbacks in the country in J.T. Barrett and Baker Mayfield. But it’s Sooners backup Austin Kendall who has thrust himself in the spotlight thanks to some ill-conceived comments on Sooner Sports.
“I think they have a really basic defense,” he said. “I think we can go out there and, I mean, Baker, he’ll light them up. I’m really looking forward to it. If my number’s called, I think I can do the same.”
While Kendall probaby didn’t step on set with the intention to provide the Buckeyes with bulletin board material, it’s tough to understand what motivated these comments. Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano may not specialize in exotic blitz packages but the early-season results speak for themselves. In two games, his defense has yielded just two field goals.
Should be a fun day on OSU message boards and at the Sooners’ quarterback meeting.
