CM Punk was decimated by Mickey Gall in his first UFC fight. We already wondered what Punk should do next — other MMA? indie wrestling? Non-PPV UFC? — and legendary announcer Jim Ross has now weighed in with his opinion.

On his most recent podcast, J.R. was speaking with MMA podcaster John Pollock about the fighting futures of Brock Lesnar and CM Punk. On the latter, J.R. said, “If UFC is smart, and they are,” he said, noting the $4 billion sale, “You gotta put CM Punk on a free special [on FS1] and see what kind of rating he gets. If he gets a good TV rating and he can get out of there with his life, he’s another guy that could get you a good rating again on PPV. He has a following. Until they have gotten to the end of the road with CM Punk, he’s still marketable in my opinion.”
