Falcons CB Robert Alford Kicks Broncos Receiver After Big Hit

Robert Alford has a problem with penalties. On Sunday that tendency reared its ugly head again, as the Atlanta Falcons cornerback made a bone-headed play that could have cost his team dearly against the Denver Broncos.

With his team leading 23-13 and less than 30 seconds to go, Alford tackled Emmanuel Sanders with a vicious hit, then swung his foot at the wideout as an attempt to kick him.

Another angle:

The 15-yard penalty he was flagged for put Denver in field goal position, so the Broncos kicked it, then attempted an onside kick. The field goal was good, and had they recovered that onside kick (they didn’t) the Broncos could have had a chance to tie the game with a Hail Mary.

Seriously, how dumb can you be?

Entering Sunday, Alford had been whistled for three defensive pass interference calls and also a taunting penalty. This is the fifth week of the season and he’s now had five major penalties. Here’s the (incredibly long) full list of penalties Alford has incurred during his career.
