Clayton Kershaw earned his first major league save early Friday morning in Game 5 of the NLDS. Kershaw’s last save before Game 5 was much less important, but extremely notable in a very “oh, wow that’s weird” way. Scott Van Pelt informed Kershaw that his previous save came in 2006 and his catcher was current Dodgers’ closer Kenley Jansen.

A Redditor tracked down the box score from the August 19, 2006 Gulf Coast League game between Kershaw’s Dodgers and the Nationals.

In addition to Jansen behind the plate, the Dodgers designated hitter that day was former L.A. manager Don Mattingly’s son, Preston.

The Nationals Gulf Coast League manager back then was current Washington third base coach Bob Henley.

Plus, it was TEN YEARS AGO and people love any anniversary that ends in a five or zero.

So take this information. Go find someone who hasn’t seen this stuff and tell them about it. You will blow their mind.
