President Barack Obama’s 2013 golf trip to Florida where he met up and played with Tiger Woods, who was coming off of a win at the Farmers Insurance Open and was ranked number 2 in the world at the time, was quite costly. Obama enjoys his time on the course, as have several other former Presidents, but this one of his over 300 rounds of golf while in office may have been a little much.
Via The Washington Times:
The Government Accountability Office reported Wednesday that the departments of Defense and Homeland Security spent more than $3.6 million in travel costs and other expenses for Mr. Obama’s getaway weekend with Mr. Woods and other golf partners at an exclusive resort in Florida.
The article states that the costs included:
- Operation of Air Force One, at about $200,000 per hour of flight.
- A virtual squadron of supporting aircraft and U.S. Coast Guard small boats.
- Per diem and other travel expenses for an unspecified number of Pentagon and Homeland Security personnel.
- A $200 million C-17 Globemaster and the C-5 Super Galaxy.
The four-day trip required extra military transport planes and involved a total of 14 airports and Air Force bases, but Obama got his, or our, money’s worth out of the trip and got in a lesson with Butch Harmon and his son.
