Kate Upton made headlines on Wednesday when she ripped media members who didn’t select her fiancee, Justin Verlander, for the American League Cy Young Award. Verlander got the most first-place votes but wound up losing to former teammate Rick Porcello. On Thursday, the Detroit Tigers ace came to the defense of his wife-to-be when the New York Daily News’ Mark Feinsand told her to “pipe down.”

Verlander was right to be upset, Feinsand’s comments were completely out of line. Upton and Verlander also have a right to be a little ticked that some of the voters turned their ballots in before the end of the season. That’s something Major League Baseball should look into preventing.

In the end it doesn’t matter, Porcello won the award and the 33-year-old Verlander will have to try and win his second Cy Young next season.
