Rob Gronkowski suffered a perforated lung on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks, and did not make the trip for the New England Patriots Week 11 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. Gronk was officially ruled out by the Pats on Friday.

It likely would have been incredibly uncomfortable for Gronk to fly across the country with a lung injury like that. So it makes sense that the Pats aren’t pushing him, especially against the lowly 49ers. What’s incredible is that there was even a thought Gronkowski could play this week after such a violent injury.

He is expected to return to the field next week against the New York Jets.
