Notre Dame just finished a rough 4-8 season. The school is facing NCAA discipline over an academics scandal. The Irish administration stood by Brian Kelly. But, that doesn’t mean Kelly will stand by Notre Dame.
Pat Forde is reporting, citing plural “sources,” that Brian Kelly’s representatives have been exploring alternative coaching options for him.
There has been speculation a mutual parting between Kelly and Notre Dame may be the best thing for both. The question is where Kelly could go. LSU and Texas have filled their positions. There does not appear to be a lateral move available right now. Maybe that changes in a few days. It’s hard to see Kelly ditching the Irish for Purdue.
It’s also unclear how this ugly season has affected Kelly’s stock. He’s a proven winner at multiple levels. He has been to a national title game. He also had his management come under fire during a disastrous season.
Maybe Kelly will rethink his position on the NFL?
