Orlando Thomas: The former Minnesota Vikings safety, who has been battling Lou Gehrig's disease for five years, is not dead, despite media reports that surfaced yesterday suggesting otherwise. The Vikings website first reported that Thomas had died Wednesday - using, apparently, a rumor that began in Myspace - and then other outlets began to pick up the news. Finally, former Minnesota receiver Jake Reed began tweeting that everything was incorrect, and the media outlets recanting the initial report. [Star Trib] (17)

Steve McNair Murder-Suicide May Have Been ... Murder-Murder?: Remember how we kept saying something didn't quite add up in the Steve McNair "murder-suicide?" Intrepid CBS News reporter Armen Keteyian has uncovered a few things that might leave you wondering if Sahel Kazem is the killer. Phone records obtained by CBS News show that Kazem and the guy who sold her the gun, Adrian Gilliam, spoke via phone and text message 200 times in about three weeks. They swapped 49 texts and calls on the day of the murder. Those same phone records show Kazem spoke to Gilliam just two hours before police said McNair was killed. Did we mention that Gilliam is a convicted murderer? [CBS News] (33)

Death, Former Athletes, NFL 18 Comments »

Steve McNair’s jarring death this summer has been looked into extensively by CBS news hound Armen Keteyian, and there happen to be a few inconsistencies involving the timeline, the purchase of what the cops said was the murder weapon, and Sahel Kazemi’s financial situation. This report on the murder-suicide makes the keystone cops in Tennessee look rather inept. And this is only part one in the series. [CBS News]
