The BCS had the bright idea to start a twitter account - @InsidetheBCS - perhaps in an effort to blunt the tsunami of criticism that is being rightfully heaped on the farce that is the end of the college football season. Who’s behind the account? A reader with a keen eye noticed that the first peopel to “follow” the account were … you guessed it, publicists. Read the rest of this entry »
Notre Dame and Charlie Weis: Since we were talking about recruiting and the Irish this week, here’s a stat for you - the 28-player recruiting class that Charlie Weis hauled in back in 2006 plays its last home game Saturday. Ten of those players have transferred. Only nine of those players “had an impact” (whatever that means). And since the group began playing regularly, their record is an underwhelming 16-19. Now the question becomes - were those kids “overrated” in high school, or did Charlie Weis just not do a good job coaching them? A combination of the two? Something else entirely? [Tribune]
LSU-Ole Miss: The KKK is angry that Ole Miss is no longer playing “From Dixie with Love,” so those hooded clowns are going to plan a “rally” in Oxford Saturday when the Rebels play the LSU Tigers. The KKK plans on marching in full robes, which, believe it or not, is actually a good thing. [Ed. Let my emotions get the best of me. The next two sentences were a poor choice of words.] Much easier to use a high-powered rifle on these racists. The cops wouldn’t arrest people for killing the KKK, would they? Also, you can cross that trip to the Grove next September off our list. We’ll settle for Baton Rouge or Gainesville. [LSU Reveille]
BCS Announcers: Bad news if your team makes the Sugar Bowl -Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick will be the announcers. We still cringe at the thought of Brennaman slurping Tim Tebow in January. The good news is that Musburger and Herbstreit will call the National title game and the Rose Bowl. The Orange Bowl: Dick Stockton and Charles Davis. They might get the other battle of unbeatens - TCU and Boise State. Oops, our bad - Penn State’s going to be the BCS pick there. [USA Today]
Woody Paige reads blogs, clearly doesn’t like to be ripped. Who does? (Bronco Talk)
Ricky Williams scored three times and the Dolphins beat the Panthers. The loss likely eliminates the Panthers from the playoffs. (PBP, Observer) Read the rest of this entry »
This weekend isn’t great. Couple of things to figure out in the Pac-10, a few to determine in the ACC, some clouds in the BCS picture that likely won’t be resolved until around 11 pm on December 5, and the beginnings of two rivalry weekends back-to-back. It’s always a fun time to hit the douchiest bar in your hometown (assuming you swung Monday and Tuesday off next week), because on Saturday night, you will run into at least one person you want to jack in the face. And what better way to watch Oregon/Arizona than that, right? We’ll keep these proceedings short. Go spend time with your families, you heathens. Read the rest of this entry »
Mark Mangino: “Mark Mangino is an abusive bully. He’s been one from the moment he stepped on campus at Kansas. He used bully tactics to build a winning football team in 2007 and intimidate anyone on campus who dared to stand in his way. Abusive bullies are dangerous, and leaders of institutions and members of the media have an obligation to stand up to them.” The pressure’s on Kansas to fire Mangino. He’s probably a goner. He cursed out cops who tried to give him a parking ticket! Who among us hasn’t done that? [KC Star]
Jeremy Shockey vs. LeBron James: The Saints tight end dropped a strange gauntlet on twitter last night. The uninformed Shockey must have had one too many energy drinks - James was an accomplished high school football player, is perhaps the most freakish physical specimen in NBA (sports?) history, and at 6-foot-8, 265 pounds, he’s taller, heavier, and presumably faster than any tight end in the league.
