Erin Andrews Gives Joba Chamberlain the Eye Roll**

2008 Culture Tournament, Baseball, Media Gossip/Musings, Video 40 Comments »

[UPDATE, from an ESPN source: "The director was probably in her ear, yapping to wrap it up, no time to chit-chat, all that garbage. It's the disembodied voice in your ear, making you feel, however briefly, batshit-crazy."]

[UPDATE II: Andrews talked to Hot Clicks about it: "It was my fault. I was looking over at my producer at the end, asking him what we needed to get next from him because I had to do another interview with him about the bugs in Cleveland. Again, my fault I shouldn't have looked away so quick. I didn't think that would be included on interview."] Read the rest of this entry »

2008 Culture Bracket Champ: Erin Andrews

Congrats, Miss Andrews. You are the 2008 Culture Bracket Champion. Andrews spanked Jessica Simpson (the imagery!) 63-37 last night in the finals. Check out this pretty darn impressive road to the title: Defeated Jenn Sterger, Cheryl Cole, David Tyree’s Catch, Tyra from Friday Night Lights, and in the Final Four, The Office. Certainly worth noting: None of them were remotely close. We have some awesome changes for next year’s tournament, and really, it’s too bad we have to wait 11 months.

PM Roundup: Laettner Fears Kentucky (The State)

Midway through the first half of the 2008 Culture Bracket Championship and Erin Andrews is cruising. Romo, if you’re reading, can’t you call in reinforcements? Oh, and this lady in orange is Kristin Cavallari, and to the new folks stopping by for the first time, we gave up on Laguna Beach after the first season (when she was on it), and wouldn’t watch The Hills if you put a gun to our head.

Should have made it a full post: Laettner would rather pee in a plastic bottle than get out of the car while driving though Kentucky. (Wildcat Nation)

2008 Culture Tournament: Final Four

2008 Culture Tournament 49 Comments »

Despite a fierce rally behind the amoeba defense, Jessica Simpson was able to hold off Hot Clicks, 52-48, to advance to this weekend’s Final Four in the 2008 Culture Tournament. Also advancing: Clay Buchholz’s Penthouse Pet, who cruised to a victory over the Wire.

So the Final Four, which you can vote on all weekend long, is set: The Office (which returns next week! You’re damn right we watched all four episodes last night) vs. Erin Andrews, and Jessica Simpson vs. Clay Buchholz’s Penhouse Pet. Read the rest of this entry »

2008 Culture Bracket Tournament: Elite 8

2008 Culture Tournament 48 Comments »

By noon-ish tomorrow, we will have the Final Four set for the 2008 Culture Tournament. Yesterday, The Office prevailed over LeBron James, and Erin Andrews thumped Tyra from Friday Night Lights. (Erin Andrews is on the verge of pulling an Arizona from 1997 – taking down three No. 1 seeds – theoretically, of course. Sure, Tyra was only a 7 seed, but she was a No. 1 seed in our hearts. Next year, Andrews starts in the play-in game … against Marissa Miller.)

Today’s matchups: Hot Clicks, which already took down Tiger Woods, has a nearly insurmountable task going against Jessica Simpson. In the other showdown, everyone’s favorite show, The Wire, goes up against Clay Buchholz’s Penthouse Pet. (Also next year: Clearly, the women are fan favorites, so we’re just going to shove them all in a bracket and give everyone else shot.) Final Four voting will be open all weekend, and the Championship is Monday. Read the rest of this entry »

And then there were eight. LeBron James rallied late to stun Barack Obama, and the Cavs star will face upset winner The Office, which defeated God. The other regional final be a battle of the blondes: ESPN’s Erin Andrews vs. Tyra (real name: Adrianne Palicki) of Friday Night Lights. We’ll leave voting open for about 24 hours. The other half of the Elite 8 is tomorrow, and you’ll have all weekend to vote on the Final Four. Read the rest of this entry »

2008 Culture Bracket Tournament Update: Sweet 16

2008 Culture Tournament 54 Comments »

Are we trying to influence your vote in the 2008 Culture Tournament by posting this spectacular photo of Jessica Simpson? Perhaps. If you pass on casting your vote in her box (ha!), then you will vote for a post-TGI Friday’s MMF threesome, which is how NJ Governor Jim McGreevey used to roll. Other matchups that will result in an Elite 8 berth: Hot Clicks vs. Dan Patrick in an SI showdown; the Diminishing US Dollar vs. The Wire, and Bill Simmons against Clay Buchholz’s Pethouse Pet. Simmons has had a good run, but he’s running into Villanova circa 1985 in this one. Vote now, or forever hold your peace. Read the rest of this entry »

2008 Culture Bracket: The Sweet 16

2008 Culture Tournament 37 Comments »

Four matchups today, and four tomorrow before we whittle the Culture Tournament field to eight. Several incredibly intriguing showdowns today, perhaps highlighted by Andrews going up against David Tyree’s catch. Will the much-loved sideline siren be a match for one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history? If you care, Tyree is the only “team” in the field to garner 80 percent or more of the votes in the first two rounds. We’re going to leave the polls open until 9 a.m. tomorrow. For the Elite 8 (Wednesday and Thursday), we’re considering switching up the voting so that you can vote as many times as you’d like. Feel free to offer your opinion on this in the comments. Also, a few college football fans expressed disdain for the tournament because the sport was completely omitted (how’d we forget Tebow!). Sad move on our part. Next year, totally.
