Mike Vick has been a non-factor in Philly. Vick isn’t getting an opportunity to run the wildcat or anything else – 2-of-6 passing in six games; 12 carries for 27 yards – and last night on NBC, Tony Dungy speculated that the former Falcons’ star could wind up in Buffalo. Vick turns 30 in the offseason, and presumably could help a team that’s at least close to the playoffs (Buffalo) as opposed to one that is rebuilding (St. Louis, Cleveland). This would mean, of course, that Buffalo is officially the land of NFL reclamation projects (see Terrell Owens). Is this all in an effort to drum up local interest (you know, sell tickets) and keep the team from moving to Canada? [Buffalo News]

If Not For a Chase Utley Error, Los Angeles Fans Would Already Have the Lakers on the Mind
Baseball, Mike Vick, NFL 40 Comments »
The Phillies pounded the Dodgers in frigid Philadelphia 11-0 last night. Cliff Lee, like Pedro on Friday, was dominant. If not for a rare, 8th inning throwing error by Chase Utley in game two, Philly fans would be bringing brooms to to the ballpark tonight. The Dodgers offense, 4th in hitting and OBP this season in MLB, has been dormant in the last two games, mustering just eight hits in the last 18 innings. Ryan Howard has six RBI in the series; the Dodgers have eight runs.
Worth noting: Philles 11, Eagles 9. If you’re wondering: Mike Vick had one carry for -4 yards.

There’s golf. Postseason baseball. Two very significant college football games. Preseason NBA action! Hockey! And Sunday’s NFL slate, which is somewhat meek. Mike Vick: The Philadelphia Eagles QB, who had a relationship with NIKE prior to his incarceration, is back with world's leading supplier of athletic shoes and apparel. Smart move, considering how well Vick's jersey is selling. His agent confirmed the deal to the Philadelphia Inquirer, but refused to disclose terms. But a "source" (obviously the agent, Joel Segal), "Vick will wear Nike shoes and apparel. As of now, there are no plans for another signature Vick shoe." [UPDATE: Nike says no deal, it is just giving Vick free product.] Charles Robinson of Yahoo is upset about NIKE hopping back into bed with Vick. "Never mind that Vick is attempting to recreate himself after years of ugly behavior. It wasn’t just about the dogfighting. What about the failed drug test before his prison sentencing? What about the “Ron Mexico” embarrassment? What about Vick’s own admission – that despite a $130 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons, he wasn’t always working hard at his craft?" (14)Good News, Bad News For Vick: Jets Reserves Roughed Him Up, But at Least He’s Back in Week 3

Interesting night for Mike Vick at the Meadowlands. Yes, he found the end zone. Yes, his arm looked strong on a few passes. Yes, he was elusive on a couple occasions. Yes, he could be pivotal for the Eagles inside the 10-yard line, where they seemed to struggle last season. He’s slippery and still quick (video below) and does a decent job running the option. (All of that makes it comical to read columns about how the Eagles don’t have a “plan” for him.)
But damn did the Jets’ reserves pressure Vick: Four sacks, two turnovers. Read the rest of this entry »

One of the slowest sports months of the year produced plenty of riveting stories: Rick Pitino banged Karen Sypher in a restaurant six years ago and gave her money for “health insurance” (read: an abortion) the Eagles signed Mike Vick , Michael Beasley got a horrible back tattoo and days later checked into rehab, John Calipari had another Final Four scrubbed from the record books, Tim Tebow posed shirtless in GQ, Plaxico Burress got shipped up the river for two years, and Kate Mara appeared on Entourage. Ending a Busy Week with a Sophomoric Gif: Michelle Beadle Enjoying a Hot Dog on TV

Busy week: WAGs ruled, Rick Pitino ranted, unemployed Billy Gillispie got a DUI, Vick played, and we went to Bristol. Whew. These two lovebirds? Nicole Scherzinger and her car-racing boyfriend, Lewis Hamilton.
After the jump, a reader sent in gif that was made for busy Fridays: Sportsnation’s Michelle Beadle eating a hot dog. Read the rest of this entry »
Guess we fell victim to high expectations. Even though Mike Vick had been behind bars for the better part of two years, hadn’t been on a football field since late 2006, and had only been with the Eagles for two weeks, we thought he’d play at least a few series last night. Maybe a quarter. Read the rest of this entry »
Manufactured Outrage: “There is no pressing football reason for Michael Vick to take part in the Eagles’ preseason game tonight.” Except that he hasn’t played football for two years, the Eagles invested money in him and you form your depth chart in preseason. But let’s ignore those, it’s all-encompassing statements like this that make my columns edgy. (Philly.com)
