Abortion is a charged issue, even more so than Tebow. Writing about it galvanizes those opposed, resulting in inevitable feedback. Our friends at Deadspin shared some of theirs. So, I felt I would share a gem from my collection. Here is a lovely lady named Kimberly, who also was kind enough to grace me with her opinions on gays in the military.
Tim Tebow’s potential drafter – the Jacksonville Jaguars – employs a detractor! Three-year veteran, Uche Nwaneri posted some critical words about Tebow on the Jaguars official message board. It’s pretty much everything that everyone has been saying about Tebow for the last couple years, but this is from a lineman on the team that many think will actually draft Tebow. “Here’s what we do need a lot more of: Tebows. Collegians who are selfless enough to choose not to spend summers poolside, but travel to impoverished countries to dispense medical care to children, as Tebow has every summer of his career. Athletes who believe in something other than themselves, and are willing to put their backbone where their mouth is. Celebrities who are self-possessed and self-controlled enough to use their wattage to advertise commitment over decadence. You know what we really need more of? Famous guys who aren’t embarrassed to practice sexual restraint, and to say it out loud. If we had more of those, women might have fewer abortions.” [Wash Post]
Focus on the Family’s pro-life ad with Tim Tebow has drawn scorn from women’s groups. The retort, from The New York Times and others, is that CBS is providing a content-neutral forum for advocacy groups. Focus on the Family paid for the spot. Women’s groups can do the same. There is, however, a problem with that argument. The forum is not content-neutral.
Tim Tebow's Anti-Abortion Ad: The NY Times weighed in with an editorial this weekend. Here's another take: "Pam's story certainly is moving. But as a guide to making abortion decisions, it's misleading." Hey, only six more days of talking about abortion and Tim Tebow! Whee! Thank goodness Tebow and the right wingers are here to fill two weeks of immense boredom. [Slate] (123)

“He can’t play quarterback in the NFL, I’m convinced of it,” ESPN’s Todd McShay said of Tim Tebow. Don’t worry, Todd – Tim’s a good Christian, he forgives you for hammering him all week. (Boston Globe)
But Tony Sparano, the Dolphins coach, really likes Tebow. (Palm Beach Post)
Tim Tebow and his mother will be featured in a Super Bowl commercial. The message will be a polarizing one: Anti-abortion. We tried to avoid the topic this week, but then we stumbled across this New Yorker (!) blog post about it. It deserves attention. Read the rest of this entry »
Tim Tebow: "According to Tebow’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, Tebow was hospitalized Monday night getting treatment for strep throat. 'He’s been sick for two days,' Sexton said following Tuesday afternoon’s practice. 'He had a 103 temperature.'" Would somebody notify Todd McShay of this development? McShay has been killin' Tebow on Sportscenter all week. [Post-Dispatch] (51)
