Super Bowl Sideshow: Commercials, Halftime a Bit Underwhelming

Music, Super Bowl Ads, Video 130 Comments »

I considered ranking the Super Bowl commercials, but thought better of it. That would give them undeserved credit. They weren’t funny. Not one paused the conversation. The only one I laughed at was Jim Nantz giving relationship advice, and that was unintentional comedy.

Recycled themes and stale celebrity cameos are now the height of wit? Perhaps, we should reconsider the effect of train-wreck TV and internet memes.

Feelings (He) Can't Explain: After Janet Jackson's infamous nipple scandalized America, the NFL has skewed vanilla with its Super Bowl halftime guests: Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, etc.  The Who seemingly followed this vein, though it seems the NFL forgot about guitarist Pete Townshend's 2003 arrest for child pornography.  Schools in the Dolphin Stadium vicinity were sent a warning about his presence in the area. Rihanna Dating Matt Kemp of the Dodgers?

Athletes and Celebrities, Baseball, Music 29 Comments »

Rihanna-Matt-KempRihanna may or may not be dating Matt Kemp of the LA Dodgers. Apparently they went to a Comedy Club over the holidays, and then went shopping somewhere in LA, and this photo is one of a series over at Entertainment Rundown. In April of last year, Rihanna was linked to Andrew Bynum of the Lakers. Kemp, one of the best young outfielders in the National League, was apparently dating some model last year. [via Dom]

Tracy McGrady: "Once T-Mac opened his mouth and wanted his minutes elevated, he did his general manager and coach a favor: They had an excuse to tell him he was deactivated for the weekend games with New Jersey and Cleveland, that this awkward arrangement was unworkable." A trade is imminent, right? No. Maybe in February. What a depressing decline for McGrady, one of our favorite players earlier this decade. Nice guy. Smooth game. Remember when Jay-Z name checked him in a song with Freeway? "Bang like T-Mac" ... [Woj] (34)

tommy kelly done lost his pantsNew Orleans lost at home Saturday to Dallas. Last night, Minnesota went to Carolina and lost to the Panthers and their backup quarterback. (And Tommy Kelly lost his pants.) The Brett Favre MVP talk has ended – Jets fans saw this coming – and suddenly, the NFC Championship game doesn’t look like it’ll automatically be the Saints and the Vikings. (Did Minnesota coach Brad Childress try to bench Brett last night, as a couple of Minnesota scribes have suggested?) Read the rest of this entry »

Top Five Records of 2009

Music 119 Comments »

Since its the end of the year, its time to look back and think about all the stuff that happened during this past, um, year.  Today, we’re going to talk about our favorite albums of 2009.  We asked Duffy to join in, but the only albums he bought this year were the Arctic Monkeys and Lady GaGa (I might be paraphrasing).  So here are some of the albums that Hernia and CRM loved in 2009.
