Focus on the Family’s pro-life ad with Tim Tebow has drawn scorn from women’s groups. The retort, from The New York Times and others, is that CBS is providing a content-neutral forum for advocacy groups. Focus on the Family paid for the spot. Women’s groups can do the same. There is, however, a problem with that argument. The forum is not content-neutral.

Ivy League bedlam – at a squash match.
Words such as “dick,” “fag” and “—-sucker” were repeatedly shouted at the visitors Wednesday, many times with “f——” added as an adjective. Harvard’s female players eventually sought the protection of an assistant coach after they said they were called “whores” and “sluts” while they cheered on their male peers. While playing his match, Franklin Cohen was told he had small genitals and asked if he liked bagels, a phrase his mother viewed as a reference to the family’s Jewish surname.
Both the Harvard men and women’s team overcame the taunting to win. [Valley News]
Penn State “Cross” T-Shirt Controversy is the Kind of Crap That Pisses Everyone Off

That t-shirt to the right will be worn for yet another “White Out” at State College next weekend when rival Ohio State visits Penn State. Apparently, a handful of people complained about the t-shirt, and the Anti-Defamation League got involved, and now it’s a full-blown “story.” All 30,000 t-shirts sold. Supposedly, there were six complaints. How is this a story? Tell those idiots to buzz off and yank their tickets. Next thing you know, they’ll spill coffee on themselves and sue. [Daily Collegian]

In BYU’s quest to crash the BCS, step II is Saturday: Hosting Florida State. We’ll obviously be rooting for the Cougars, whose previous two meetings with the ‘Noles resulted in losses (44-28 despite having Ty Detmer and 29-3 in 2000). After FSU’s disaster against Jacksonville State last week, oddsmakers have labeled BYU considerable favorites. Step III is an Oct. 24 home game against TCU; Step IV is the season finale when the Cougars host rival Utah. It can be done. [Orlando Sentinel]
High School Football Coach Takes Some Players to Get Baptized, One Mother and the ACLU are Outraged
High School Sports, REligion 57 Comments »
The key word to focus on as you read this story: voluntary. “The head football coach at Breckinridge County High School took about 20 players on a school bus late last month to his church, where nearly half of them were baptized.” Predictably, the mother of one player is outraged. The ACLU has gotten involved, and here’s part of their statement: “Coaches have great power and persuasion by virtue of their position, and they have to stay neutral.” [Courier-Journal]
