Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber attended the Kings-Spurs game last night at his home away from home, ARCO Arena. He caught up with Tim Duncan before the Spurs’ win and they posed for one of those pictures that all fans have to take with fighters – clenched fists. Its super-badass. Faber will co-headline the WEC’s first PPV event in April in ARCO. I have no idea if Duncan – or any fans – will buy the $44.99 PPV.
Kind of sounds like a new crime-drama on CBS, doesn’t it? Well, its not. It’s the latest show by the UFC’s super-serious rival promotion Strikeforce. Unlike in November when the mainstream media was giving some dap to Fedor and Brett Rogers the Miami event will take place quietly on Showtime. Did I mention Herschel Walker will be there? The New Orleans Saints signed fan favorite Deuce McAllister on the eve of their clash with the Arizona Cardinals. McAllister won’t play, but he’s expected to provide a big lift for the Saints and their fans.
McAllister, whose NFL career likely is done because of knee injuries he suffered during his Saints career, gets to be a part of the playoff team – including the designated players’ share of $21,000 for the game – and gets to finish on a high note. Read the rest of this entry »
Real life got in the way as the clock ticked closer to midnight on New Year’s, so we pushed the Top 5 post back a couple weeks. It’s not like you forgot 2009 already, right? Here to help me review the year is former TBL intern and Daily Kansan editor, Stephen Montemayor. Shirtless men ahead… Read the rest of this entry »
The 2009 World MMA Awards are tomorrow night on Versus. I have no idea what the show will be like or even if I’ll watch it (not enough shirtless dudes rolling around), but this video made me laugh. Its nice to see Randy trying out his comedic chops for once.
Ah, the New Year’s weekend show. As a rule the UFC make sure that the end of year/beginning of year Pay Per Views are always a major event. UFC 108 was no different. Until Dana White found a Tiki God on vacation in Hawaii. Then UFC 108 went and got all cursed. Headliners have dropped like flies. Read the rest of this entry »
OK, you’re probably confused by the title. No, this isn’t a college football post. Sorry. This has nothing to do with Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. They’re still plenty prideful about that program down south. This is actually an MMA post. Kind of.
A few months back we first heard about Alabama Pride, a regional MMA event that was going to feature the professional debut of DMX. DMX was scheduled to fight on of his managers, Eric Martinez. The card was also going to be headlined by a freak show match between Butterbean and Tank Abbott. Yeah. Read the rest of this entry »
Now for a break from the great college football action. Wait, what? The whole day has been a break from great college football action? You don’t appreciate UConn-Notre Dame? The door is over!
Complex put together a list of the 50 Greatest MMA Dominations and let me tell you, there’s a lot of time killing, violent, bloody, painful goodness. Some of the fights are classic fights featuring fighters we’ve all heard of. Some are fights between guys most people have never heard of. Either way, most of them are bloody awesome. And I mean that in both the American and British parlance.
