In the last five games of the season, Favre threw 2 TD and 9 INTs. By some bizarre, inexplicable coincidence, the Jets went 1-4 in those games, with the one win coming only after divine intervention. In another bizarre, inexplicable coincidence, the Jets went from 1st place to 3rd place in the AFC East in that 5-game span. Aren’t those coincidences bizarre and inexplicable? Weird, right?

Wait a minute. Is it possible that Favre’s play (along with, it should be noted, some terrible coaching) could have been a big part of the Jets’ collapse?

No. No, that’s just crazy talk.

The Jets have an average roster. They’re an 8-8 team. If you want to bring back Favre you’re only doing it because of the attention it brings. If that’s what you’re after, God bless. It does nothing in terms of making your team better for the future. And with a much tougher schedule next year, by sticking with Favre you’re just asking for a 6-10 finish with 25+ picks and a lightning storm of criticism. That oughta help sell those PSL’s.

By the way, that five-win swing wasn’t a product of Favre, it was improved offensive line play and a much more respectable defense. But of course ESPN and the national media would have you believe it was all because of him.

TBL – Favre won’t get a 2nd year in a system. With a new coach comes a new system.

which is why im on board for a coach who preaches defense, and find a coordinator who can work with favre and a system he likes (and one that suits the needs of clemens). i think you’ve got to play to your strengths, instead of trying to jam a square into a hole.

You don’t need to see the schedule to know who they’ll be playing. They’ll be playing the AFC South and the NFC North, along with the third-place teams from the AFC West and AFC North, meaning the Raiders and Bengals. They could easily drop all four games against the AFC South. They’ll likely split against the NFC North and split their divisional games. They look like an 8-8 team to me.

1) Good business decision. Favre = more national TV exposure, more hype, more everything. More interceptions? Sure.

It’s huge especially with a new stadium coming. Have to have a marquee name to go along with it. Woody likes money.

2) He had one year with the offense. One. What’s one more year? The Jets went from 4-12 to 9-7. Haven’t seen the 2009 sked yet, but 11 wins with an experienced QB and help for the defense is entirely possible.
