After a second viewing last night, I think that Esau/Black Shirt Guy:

– - was imprisoned in the cabin until the ash circle was broken (did that happen when Ben & Locke visited the cabin?)

– - has taken on the appearance of dead people on the island (Christian, Horace, Claire, Alex and now Locke) as well as the Smoke Monster;

– - has been playing Locke like a fine-tuned piano this whole time.

Not sure if others thought it, but the white flash absolutely meant to me that there was a time jump. All season white flashes have accompanied changes in time. Not sure why that one wouldn’t.

i think the scenario set it up to intimate the bomb did go off since it was a nuke and nuke explosions have a bright white explosion.

also have to consider the whole white/black symbolism. maybe the whole time we’ve been watching the show it’s been reflective of the Other Guy’s philosophy that people on the island will end in war, corruption and death in a pre-determined fashion? After the explosion it changed things and the final season will be about exercising free will to create your own destiny?

Jensen seems a little too sure that the bomb exploded. Since it just cut to white, how can we be sure?

Jensen is on the Other Guy was a prisoner in the cabin path.
I remember a scene with Locke and a ghost Horace cutting the wood to build that cabin…

His take on Juliet being the variable is interesting. Her changing her mind about things really changed the outcome of the epi.
