If LeBatard gets suspended for any of this – unlikely, but you never know – can we put in a request for some fresh PTI (read: anyone) meat besides the usual backup tandem of Bob Ryan and JA Adande?

TBL Godfather your enterprising spirit is to be admired again, but did you forget with whom you are dealing here in Bristol? The answer is a resounding “FUCK NO!” because they must choose two metrosexuals, a metrosexual and a press codger, a metrosexual and a wus(Bayless), or a metrosexual and a ninnie (sigh a “he said she said transformation” …) They will tell you “FUCK YOU” so just fuck ‘em and forget it again.

Nothing new here really — right or not you can’t just bite the hand that feeds you even in the media …which of course leads me to the point that the future is in blogs, because WE participate in the news for US, not for them for mere dollars, and cover it more accurately.
Again, this is why he’s the Godfather folks and has a team of guys who have taken oaths in blood, but again as most of you should know by know, the rest of it is classified.

Color me cynical, but Simmons doesn’t want to criticize ESPN before his book comes out. He needs them for promotion and sales so I’m guessing he says nothing controversial for the next few months. Last thing he needs is a suspension when he can be plugging weekly/daily with his podcast and column.

HMMM….I think we may be on to something. Add in the fact that ESPN Books (or ESPN “The Press” or whatever it’s called) is publishing the book, it seems that it is in Simmons’ interest to play nice for a little while.

(Qualifier: I am a Simmons fan. Sure, I think he’s lost his fastball a bit since his 2003-2005-ish heyday, but I thoroughly enjoy his podcasts….almost alway solid listening.)

I don’t get why ESPN even bothers. What, so a couple of their employees make a few valid criticisms about the company and their entire brand is going to collapse? They act like the mafia.

Mrejr8234, I’m willing to bet that you and I work in a somewhat different environment than Bill Simmons. His job is solely about creativity and presenting, in an entertaining manner, new ideas while appealing to a certain spectrum of the sports audience (those obsessed with 80s movies mostly). When the employer starts infringing upon that creativity because they are overly sensitive to criticism or simply do not like the ideas which are put forth, then I think a person should complain and point out that fact in order to retain the integrity of the column. Hearing the company line over and over again is stale, unentertaining, and insults the readers intelligence (which is a relative value for most of Simmons’ readers, but the point remains).
