She’s always the first Repub to jump over and side with the Dems so I would have been shocked if she voted against it no matter what she initially said.

Now that Chaffee is gone and Specter is a Democrat, yes she’s the biggest fence jumper in the Senate. I’m still surprised though that she would be so willing to go against what she previously said and possibly be raked over the coals when this thing inevitably runs into trouble in conference.

Oh, and Reid is probably going to lose his seat in ‘10…kinda hilarious that Democratic Sen. Majority leaders can’t seem to keep their seats.

Saw that too. I wonder if Ensign, who’s having political trouble of his own, will call off the truce that he and Reid have had for years and try to bring him down next year.

I was a little surprised that Snowe voted with the Democrats though, after she had initially said she wouldn’t.

She’s always the first Repub to jump over and side with the Dems so I would have been shocked if she voted against it no matter what she initially said.

Dems outnumber Repubs 13-10 so this is not a surprise.
I was a little surprised that Snowe voted with the Democrats though, after she had initially said she wouldn’t. With Democrats talking in committee about how great the bill is but promising to amend it in conference, they’re going to create a ton of sound bites for Republican campaign strategists next year.

She had to vote for it…pressure from her constituents. She’ll withdraw her vote after the Dems modify the plan, allowing her to tell her folks, “Hey, I voted for it, but they went and changed it.”
