Personally, I find what he did reprehensible, but this whole “eye gouge” hysteria is a bit over the top. I think it may have been more of a face wash or even the “jam his mouthpiece down his throat” move. Risky because of the bite reflex, but very effective for getting someones attention.

I still say the Georgia player did something to really piss him off.

The suspension is appropriate. This happens all the time in football, like every play. you guys have never stepped on a football field ever and have never had the luxury of getting your eyes gauged out.

If they were playing any SEC school except Vanderbilt, there would have been no suspension whatsoever, I guaran-damn-tee that.

Two years ago they had a guy arrested for getting his girlfriend’s car out of an impound lot (or something like that) a few days before the LSU game, and he still played. Sure, the guy reneged on the charges, but you know that was shady as hell too.

I think that’s the biggest problem with that. Most people have no idea the snake antics that take place in the football pile. Spikes’ eye poke was more obvious than Richard Heene’s craziness.
