Vitale really is a generous guy. When I was in college (almost 25 years ago), Vitale was just getting started and his fame was rising. I ran into the guy and told him what a fan I was. He later sent my roommate and I autographed pictures and t-shirts from a camp he was at. Pretty cool of him to do that, he did not owe us a thing, just appreciated us being fans.

To this day, I love Dickie V.

Blatant lie… I was told specifically by a notable play by play voice over there that they’ve coined the phrase “getting Dicked by Vitale,” when he swoops in a night before the game, leaving the other voice to adjust travel arrangements.
Espn doesn’t plan their broadcasts more than a day or two in advance?

Couple things here. A) ESPN often has the right of first refusal for many games. If they pass, a local affiliate can and will often pick up games. B) ESPN does have a schedule of games that they typically adhere to, however, those announcing rosters are given out a few weeks in advance. But if one team slides, ESPN will do some tinkering, especially if Dicky V intercedes.

Vitale is passionate about college basketball and is always positive. I would rather listen to him any day over the likes of Rafferty and Packer.

anyone ever think that a lot of people watch him now because they want to get more ammo to criticize him. like liberals who watch fox news to see how it can skew even good news, or cons who watch msnbc for the same reason? like the old saw, no such thing as bad pub.

on a related note, there’s a lot of companing about paolo here, and i’m no defender, but seems like he gets mentioned/quoted quite a bit. again, as was said here before, the opposite of love is apathy, and youse guys are not apathetic regarding him. just an objective observation
