Huge Simmons fan myself. Favorite writer. His EPL article after the last World Cup was the tipping point of my soccer fandom and it taught me more about the league than anything else i’ve read. And I find him hilarious.

Yes he absolutely did. Although I think he borrowed a lot of shtick from Norm Chad, and Chad gets no credit for it.

Either way, Simmons is very good, but that doesn’t make him right on NBA topics. His endless Kobe bashing just looks foolish now (2 finals appearances and a title without Shaq) as does his Steve Nash bashing.

Anyone else find his comment to Michelle Beadle about she wasn’t “acting lime a women” kind of off-putting?

I’m not a feminist nut and political correctness is one of my biggest pet peeves—but it was rather demeaning. How are women supposed to act, Bill? He was probably joking but its delivery was awkward and come across as insulting, not jovial.

I like Simmons. Even when he pisses me off, which is often, I find myself entertained. I just wish he wasn’t so self-congratulatory. Some of his foot notes in his new book are infuriating.

And I thought Minneapolis sports talk radio was bad. It sounds like we have it made here compared to what I read from everywhere else.

If we have it made with PA and The Common man, I really
don’t want to hear sports talk radio from anywhere else.

Simmons is so thin skinned, its like he doesnt even have any. WEEI was absolutely destroying him last week though, and he was going nutso on Twitter about it. They dared to question whether he made up his mailbag questions.

The problem with Simmons isn’t his writing–even when his Boston homerism goes over the top, which it often does these days, he’s still witty and clever.

The problem with Simmons is that he has to spend 25% of every column reminding people how witty and clever (and hip, and informed, and rebellious, etc. etc.) he is.
