Looks like it will be Tirico, though I dont see how he can do both MNF and radio gig. One or the other will suffer. Think I heard them say we may get an announcement tomorrow(Fri).

Tirico is the most talented of the bunch. I think the job is his if he wants it. The question would be whether he would need a sidekick and if yes, who? The Tirico Van Pelt combo played very well I thought, Tirico hosts, Van Pelt adds his witty two cents. Tirico laughs. All is good in radio land!

They love Cowherd in drivetime out west. They’ll never move him. I thought Kuselias was great on the Bash, especially during football season. Can’t handle Cohn more than 5 mins at a time. Steven A is ALL New York and they don’t even like him there. So if we want Erik, don’t let the mothership know, and don’t get him…it’s not Barry White’s fault! Hank Aaron…YO YO YO

I would prefer Van Pelt. He knows all sports has a good feel for the listener and would have quality guests. Cowherd knows nothing beyond the oblong ball his guest list is a joke [he hates giving up air time] Tirico and Kenny both good

I would like to see Van Pelt get the gig if he wants it. If Cowherd is the one then I will turn the dial like a I do now at 7/10 he just does not know enough about all sports and those he doesnt know about lhe has no guest list to discuss. Van Pelt has the respect of the industry he works hard and has time for the listener.

I hated Cowherd when he took Mr. Tony’s place. Then got so he was okay to good; now the last half year it is like his press has gone to his head and I can’t stand him. Most of the time he is either telling you how smart he is/how dumb you are, or taking a position just for the Contrarian poseur side of life. I can’t listen to so much crap for the few minutes a day he might make sense.

Linda Cohn, Dana Jacobsen, EK (who grew on me and is so much better than Siebel and Rickard), SVP, Josh Elliot, even upandcomer Ryan Ruccilo would get my vote.

Stephen A. needs to be in TINY doses. 3hoursx5days does NOT equal tiny. Rickard and Siebel get holier than thou too much for me.

I wouldn’t be disappointed if Colin didn’t get it, but as long as he’s on the air 3 (or 4 if you’re on the Left Coast) hours a day, I’ll be happy. I don’t get this sentiment that Colin’s not a “journalist”. Sports radio isn’t about journalism. It’s about entertaining the listeners and drawing advertisers and their revenue.

It’s interesting to see the completely different opinions people have on here.

My numero uno choice to take over Patrick’s job would be Bob Valvano. He has interesting opinions, has a personality, has a recognizable name (everyone has heard of his late brother at least), talks about college basketball (I’m bias on that), and does a good job of covering all the Sports.

I kind of liked the one day I heard Scott Van Pelt the other week also. I heard the interview with the Deadspin guy. I hate to say this, but I thought the Deadspin guy did bloggers a disservice. I almost think that was Van Pelt’s point. The Deadspin guy came off as kind of a nerd, and with a little too much TMZ influence or something like that. Maybe I’m making no sense! But I think The Big Lead is a lot more interesting then Deadspin. I don’t know what the big hoopdy doo is over Deadspin.

The 2 that would probaly lose ESPN the most listeners in the 1-4 time-slot
1) Stephen A. Smith-Just would drive you crazy after a few shows. I’m like others. I just turn it off if I hear him
2) Colin Cowherd-Too polarizing at times, and talks about football 90% of the time. Football is the most popular sport in the US so in some ways that is Cowherd’s strong point, but he overdoes it. A lot of us love other Sports, maybe even more then football!
Honorable Mention-Eric Kasilius…seems like a nice guy, but I agree with the poster that said he is “way too radio” I’m not sure what that means, but I understand what the other poster meant! Plus he does seem like that guy that would only talk Red-Sox/Yankees when regarding baseball down the stretch.

Am with you guys on Kuselias…I loved the guy on SportsBash…..Don’t see the elitist…just a guy i think understands what a fan wants….and he genuinely loves sports.

I really loved Linda Cohn when she filled in…Van Pelt not as smooth in my opinion, Kenny was fine and I’d love to see Tirico get the spot….Please don’t give me Valvano, Gottlieb or the Idiot who usually does SportsBash now, these guys are just second rate and do not hold my attention……May i also suggest , ahem, Whitlock…….the guy did a fabulous job filling in for Rome not too long ago!
Leave Colin in his spot!
