By my way of thinking, that trumps two indistinguished years as US Senator and a tenure in the Illinois State Senate in which he was mostly known for dodging tough votes (the Clinton camp has correctly noted that Obama routinely voted "present" rather than actually providing an actual yay or nay).Barack Obama is no Ronald Reagan.

ms621 – Reagan had been governor of CA for 8 years, which at least provided the voters some insight into the economic policies he would pursue at the federal level. Now factor in his run for the Presidency which has taken he and his running colleagues out of the game for a year and a Congress that is sitting on its hands waiting for an election NOTHING is getting done...could he lead some of that change...sure...but this is also in his mind his shot...he is in his early 40's...this election is the most winnable for the Democratic party in 12 years plus if another Dem gets elected he has to wait 8 years (in 4 years the incumbent is running)...now say he wasn't the running mate, he is possibly running in 8 years against the incumbent VP and if the Dem in charge did a shit job then the Republicans could be strong...while this is all personal Obama stuff...I see why now is his time to run and I am willing to discount some experience on his end for the idea that I think he could be a good leader. I have seen more of the worts and scars on the other candidates and maybe that sours me (I have always liked McCain and still do even though I am not down with his pandering to the things he was against as recently as 2 years ago). Do I think we have great candidates..no...but then again Abraham Lincoln was not considered a great candidate and and he was the best American President ever and Richard Nixon was considered a very good candidate and right guy at the right time and well..we saw how that turned out. I am not comparing any one to those guys but I am just saying you never know.

I agree Obama has not lead the way on groundbreaking legislation, you also have to look at the Senate he was elected too…In 2004 he came into a virtual 50-50 Senate with a slight Republican majority in Congress and NO One was getting things done…then after the Dems got the majority…they fucked it up in my opinion..made no changes and got tight looking towards 2008 and the Presidential elections.
