Has RR every written anything good? I dont remember reading one SI column (well essay) being anything I even remembered 3 seconds after I finished it.

And his books? WHo could even start one of those after reading the inside jacket?

Simmons was good a few years ago. His columns now are 3 times longer and 1/3rd as funny as they were 4 or 5 years ago.. Reilly, though he sucks also, sucks less. Plus he’s been doing it longer and on a bigger stage.

Edge: Reilly. Though he’s sucked for a longer time, he’s sucked less.

I’m still in shock Reilly pulled that stunt on Sosa and got away with it. Jim Rome wouldn’t have stooped that low. I think I write this every time, but it’s getting tougher and tougher to defend Simmons… even with the NBA flourishing this season, he hasn’t found a groove. I do have some expectation that Reilly will get re-energized on the .com. He’s a talented guy.

Both are no where near as good today as they were 5 years ago. Reilly had turned into a formulaic hack, Simmons can’t keep things under 10,000 words now. Reilly is unparalleled as a cheapshot artiste, Simmons can’t get his mouth around Bill Belichek’s cock fast enough. 6 of one, half dozen of another.

Reilly has a far stronger grasp of the English language than Simmons. His articles may not have the same humor or flair of a Simmons piece, but you can appreciate his writing if you’re not closed-minded or have ADHD.

Simmons, on the other hand, lives solely off his humor. When he gets serious, he does a disservice to the topic at hand. (See his recent New Orleans article, which would have been much better written by Reilly). And when he starts talking about anything Boston-related, he’s damn near unreadable.
