While I realize that this isn’t the most serious discussion about the Iditarod, Mackey winning 2 races in a row in and of itself isn’t historically impressive. What is impressive about Mackey’s win is that he also won the Yukon Quest, Alaska’s “other” 1,000 mile dog sled race just a month eariler. He became the first person to win both the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod in the same year last year and he repeated the feat again. That is what makes Mackey’s win so impressive.

And in case anyone was wondering, yes I do live in Alaska
