Smith sucked. And this is coming from a black guy. He's one of those who'd get on the soapbox, think that he knows it all and speaks for all blacks and then make an ass of himself. Listening to his show, you weren't expecting great insight or entertainment. It was more, "When's he gonna fuck up? What stupid shit is he gonna say next? How off-point and ignorant is he gonna sound on this subject? Let's see how he'll somehow stretch this into a race issue." The only thing worse than being a moron who doesn't know he's a moron is being a moron who doesn't know he's a moron and has a big mouth. His radio show was a joke, and I always pictured his co-hosts staring at him half the time, like, "They've got me on the show to keep this fool in check and bring some common sense. Then what the fuck is the point of me being the sidekick?" Good riddance. I give his run with ESPN another year. They've gotta realize that the audience doesn't like him and his act got old real quick.Mike Tirico's show is ASS. It's painful to listen to. The only way I'll listen to more than 10 minutes of it is when Scott Van Pelt is carrying it. Which idiot thought it would be a good idea to give the most bland, personality-less dipshit his own show? Was it one of them, "We want an African-American, but minus the controversy" move? He doesn't bring a fresh perspective, he's never the contrarian, never goes on a limb, he's not funny, isn't an expert/insider in any sport, isn't a great interviewer, has no sense of humor, has no discernable appeal/quirk that makes him stand out. What's the point? Maybe they were trying to do a Dan Patrick/Keith Olbermann thing, with Van Pelt : Olbermann, but Tirico is somehow more boring than Patrick. You'll notice that, other than the solo show he did after Freda's death, Don rarely, if ever, did a show without Mike. I agree with your assessment, though, about Mike's hosting by himself; he always seemed to be having a panic attack. I think part of that panic, if you will, was that the show was really Don's baby(which Don has said, himself, a few times), and didn't want to screw up. This time, though, you know he'll lean heavily on Robb and Buzz, plus BA is coming back to produce. It'll take a while, but he'll eventually settle in, I think.
