Burnett is having a bad this year. But, go back and look at the numbers, he was quite good last year when healthy 1.19 WHIP, 176K in 165 2/3 innings. He is injury prone, but still decent when healthy. Barry Zito gets paid twice as much, is healthy, and just plain sucks.

Toronto also has to pay a premium because people don’t want to go to Canada. That signing was considered a coup when they made it.

Zito’s contract blows away Burnett. At least if Burnett opts out the Jays don’t have to pay him anymore.
