Marian Hossa, a stud who dominated in the NHL postseason for the Pittsburgh Penguins, is headed to the NHL Champion Detroit Red Wings, according to Canada's TSN.

i know they will bring people in to play the wings (well i dont know that, but im hoping) and sid and malkin will prop them up big time.

Didn’t Lemieux turn Dan Quinn and Rob Brown into 100 point and 40 goal scorers? Ok, saying Crosby and Malkin is in the same league with the best player ever is a stretch, but I’m still a Pens fan that’s happy with this year’s Cup run and optimistic for the future.

Wow, they landed Orpik after all. And it seems for less money than was offered by other teams. A VERY pleasant surprise.

Sydor will get bought out. Maybe Whitney gets traded for a top line forward. If Redden is getting 6 yrs/39 million and Mark Streit gets 4/20, Whitney is suddenly a bargain to other teams.

Wow, the Wings just replaced Dallas Drake with freakin’ Hossa. Unbelievable. Even if this is a one year rental, watch out. Franzen was already developing as another potent scorer to supplement Zetterberg and Datsyuk. And now Hossa.

The Hockey Gods clearly love the Red Wings.

ruutu wouldnt stop fucking with jagr in that series, it was classic, and as fragile as jagr’s psyche is thats a big thing to do.

Guys like Ruutu give teams more than stats. I wish GMs would see this. That’s why as a Ranger fan I can’t belive Sather let Avery walk over 1.5 mil. When Jagr was struggling big time last year, people weren’t getting on him because Avery’s crzy antics helped take some focus off Jagr.

Even in the playoffs everyone focused on Avery and not Jagr. That had to have helped them last year.

For an extra 1.5 mil, Ruutu and Avery are worth it.

we knew they couldnt keep all the big money people, but one of the big reason crosby was willing to take a discount was so that they could keep the role players around.

all is not lost i agree, they still have the best three young centers in the league and the best young goalie. they have a young star in the making in letang, a vet in gonchar, and if whitney returns to his 2006 form an excellent puck moving defensemen. i know they will bring people in to play the wings (well i dont know that, but im hoping) and sid and malkin will prop them up big time. but losing hossa, malone, and orpik, all three, is a big blow. the conventional wisdom was you could pick one to stay. i really think they are going to regret not ponying up for orpik.

gonchar – cant hit
whitney – huggably soft
letang – too small to hit, but tries
eaton – shot blocker, not a hitter
gil, scuderi – PK studs but not hitters
sydor – cut

you have to have someone who can hit. and they arent bringing in any defensemen in free agency to replace orpik if he leaves. maybe ruutu is a dime a dozen player, but a defensemen who can hit in open ice hard enough to kill a guy is a valuable commodity in the league.
