EliteXC: Unfinished Business: Live-Blog

Live Blog, MMA 62 Comments »

Welcome to the second EliteXC live-blog. I’m extremely excited to see how CBS follows up the trainwreck of a debut they had on May 31st.

There’s no Gina Carano here tonight folks – just these two lasses that I’ll look up in a moment. Let’s get right to it….

Casey Blake Is Moving; I’m Going To A Movie

Baseball, Movies, Television 8 Comments »

Site News! I’m heading out to see Step Brothers before re-chaining myself to the computer for the EliteXC card this evening. If you’re not watching the big boxing match this evening between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito, ($49.95 on PPV) do stop by and enjoy the festivities. There will be jokes and the poor production and everything. There will even be poor jokes about the production.

Baseball News! Casey Blake was traded from the Indians to the Dodgers. Cleveland will receive two minor-leaguers – Carlos Santana and Jon Meloan – for Blake. Blake will be missed in the Land of LeBron, despite the fact that some fans referred to him as “Death.” Dodgers are understandably excited about the arrival of Blake to Hollywood.

The NFL Will Stream Games Online This Season

NFL, Television 3 Comments »

On Monday, SportsBusiness Journal’s Terry Lefton and John Ourand will report that the NFL has decided to stream 17 games in real time this season. The chosen games will be NBC’s prime-time schedule. You’ll be able to watch the games on NFL.com as well as NBCSports.com.

The move is especially surprising/intriguing because of the way the NFL seems to feel about their video. NBC will be the guinea pig is the network of choice because they only have 1 game a week. And as you would expect, advertisers and the networks that are making the advertising money aren’t exactly “thrilled” about the plan. Read the rest of this entry »

The Yankees Are Making Moves

Baseball 10 Comments »

The Yankee brain trust (I almost did a spit take writing that) met at the Summit of Evil in Tampa this week to discuss ways to bring the Evil Empire back to the World Series. After extensive talks, they decided, “Hey, I think the Pirates have a good player… let’s hold them upside down and see if he falls out of their pockets!” And so it was done.

The Yankees and Pirates agreed to a 6-player deal that sent Xavier Nady and reliever, Dámaso Marte to the Bronx in exchange for four minor leaguers.

The Yankees will send the Class AAA starter Ross Ohlendorf, the Class AA outfielder José Tábata and the Class AA starters Phil Coke and George Kontos to Pittsburgh.

Ballin’: American Olympians Defeat Canadian DNQ’s

NBA, Olympics 5 Comments »

USA 120, Canada 65: With TIME coverboy, LeBron James out with a bum ankle, Team USA needed someone to step u…. Oh who am I kidding? The Cleveland Cavaliers could have beaten Canada sans King James. Dwyane Wade (Pictured here with Charles Barkley on hold.), Carmelo Anthony and Michael Redd all scored 20 points for Team America (F*** yeah!). Chris Paul had 11 points and 8 assists while Kobe Bryant pitched in 15 points. For some reason, Jason Kidd started.

Dwight Howard, who has recovered from the stress fracture of his sternum, blocked three shots and grabbed 7 boards whilst anchoring the defense that held the deadly Canadian squad to 65 points. While the USA defense shutting down the always-potent Canadian offense was nice, the bright spot for the homeland was obviously, the return-to-form of Dwyane Wade.

Yardwork: Jair Jurrjens Thinks Little of Your Bats

Baseball 19 Comments »

Today’s Yardwork was written by TBL contributer, commenter, and Major League Jerk founder, Hef. (Don’t hold any of that against him.)

Braves 7, Phillies 2: Jair Jurrjens pitched eight scoreless innings while allowing only four baserunners in the victory. Brian McCann hit two home runs including a grand slam in the ninth to break the game wide open. The loss leaves the Phillies two games back of the Mets and tied with the Marlins for second.
