Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings are playing the Green Bay Packers. At Lambeau Field. To repeat: Brett Favre. Vikings. Packers. Can you dig it? Unfortunately, Thom Brennaman is sharing announcing duties with Troy Aikman. The last time we heard Brennaman was during the National title game last season. He fell in lust with Tim Tebow. You’ll need to keep one finger on the mute button. Something to look forward to if you’re nauseated by the Favre story – the BCS Standings will be released after 5 pm.
In the biggest stunner of the early games, the Eagles are pulverizing the Giants, 30-7 in Killadelphia. Eli Manning has thrown two picks and been under duress most of the afternoon. The Giants opened the season 5-0, but four of those wins came against jokers. The Giants don’t play another weak team until Dec. 21 at Washington. And you laughed when we had the Giants finishing third in the division.
Last Sunday’s early games were a trainwreck. Thankfully, today’s are much, much better. If any of the following showdowns are on in your area, you’re in luck. Actually, any time the Colts are on, I love it. Peyton is simply fun to watch.
NY Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles — Tony Siragusa will be doing sideline reports with a cheesesteak in each arm and sauteed onions dangling from his chin. Denver @ Baltimore — Dan Dierdorf was a football player. Today, he points out all the guys who are football players. San Francisco 49ers @ Indianapolis Colts — Where the ‘Niners and playoff talk start becoming bitter rivals. Miami @ NY Jets — Nantz and Simms. Can’t go wrong. Read the rest of this entry »
The Crapping-On-Cleveland Carousel Continues: "The Cavaliers are suffering because they have many new players - including a center, O’Neal, who plays nothing like their previous starter, Zydrunas Ilgauskas - and their top assistant from last season, John Kuester, is now head coach of the Pistons. James’s reaction to the acquisition of O’Neal has been tepid. He has said all the right things, but it will obviously take some wins to convince him that the organization is ready to contend for the title." Time? They don't have time. LeBron's leaving, remember? [Boston Globe] (12)
Thanks in part to some lazy Yankee defense early on in Game 3 of the World Series, all signs pointed to a messy blowout and an early exit for Andy Pettitte, who threw 40 pitches in the first two innings.
But Andy settled down nicely while the Yankee bats, including his own (!), finally busted open, scoring runs in five consecutive innings after being shut out for the first three. Seemed like the moment one thing went wrong, Cole Hamels was toast. Read the rest of this entry »
The Spurs and Kings game was delayed last night when a humorous bat with an impeccable sense of timing swooped down near the court area in the first quarter.
I’ll let Manu take it from here. But there’s an 85 percent chance he was awoken this morning to 500 PETA protesters on his front lawn holding signs and chanting, “Bats Not Right, Bats Not OK.”
