And erase the salty memory of last year’s season-ending 44-6 thumping at the hands of the Eagles. Here’s the quote from Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh that’s sure to anger Jerry Jones: Read the rest of this entry »

DeAngelo Hall of the Redskins, perhaps the worst tackling cornerback in the league, got into a bit of a skirmish with a bunch of his old mates on the Atlanta sideline today. It was so heated that the coach who cut him, Atlanta’s Mike Smith, was jawing with Hall. “I definitely stay in Atlanta in the offseason, so if Mike Smith want to see me, he can find me. Definitely can find me. Definitely can find me. That’s some bullshit right there.” [via DC Sports Bog]
Ah, memories. Eli, that little bitch, forced the Chargers to trade him on draft day in 2004 because he refused to play in San Diego. Today’s meeting Eli Manning and Phil Rivers will be the first since that deal. As much as we’d like to root for the Chargers – our AFC Super Bowl pick – we have to go Giants here. A Chargers loss helps the Jets get back in the playoff mix (a near impossibility, but still).
Worth keeping an eye on: Carolina at New Orleans. DeAngelo Williams just broke off a 66-yard TD run and it is 7-0 Panthers very early in the 1st.
Richmond Announcer (?) Upset at Missed Field Goal and Loss Accidentally Curses on Air
College Football, Media Gossip/Musings, Video 9 Comments »Richmond had its 17-game winning streak snapped Saturday, and after a field goal attempt by kicker Andrew Howard was missed in the final seconds, someone in the Comcast booth/truck can clearly be heard saying (at the 1:08 mark): “What a bum. Come on. End this fucking game. Pffft. Ugh. Let’s go home already.” [Delco Times via Fang's Bites]
A team on the rise (Atlanta) with a franchise QB vs. a team slippin’ (Washington) in dire need of a franchise QB. Kurt Warner, looking old and more immobile than usual, against a fast, aggressive defense that just destroyed whatever confidence Derek Anderson had left. Henne and Ginn – say it quick and it sounds like you’re talking about alcohol – travel to New England, where hopefully, Tom Brady will dismember them. These are your 1 pm games. Guess if we had to pick a pivotal one, it’d be Baltimore at Cincinnati. The Bengals sweeping the Ravens would be mighty impressive and it’d leave Baltimore 4-4. With a brutal schedule left (2 vs. Pitt, Chicago, Green Bay, Indy), that might mean the door is open for someone else in the AFC to sneak into the last wild card spot. Read the rest of this entry »
Jahvid Best is OK, Thankfully, but this Video of the Cal Running Back’s TD Leap Remains Terrifying
College Football, Video 12 Comments »Jahvid Best suffered a “pretty serious concussion” Saturday night while spectacularly leaping into the end zone against Oregon State. Best landed on his neck, his helmet flew off, and the image of his frozen, unconscious body on the ground is haunting. This was the second concussion he suffered in eight days. Best is projected to be among the 1st RBs taken in the 2010 draft. [Knapp, Ratto]
Brittney Griner of Baylor, around the :50 second mark in the video above, catches a pass, seals her defender, and dunks rather easily. Not some weak, soft, slam, either; this is a dunk that would prompt Bill Walton to say, “Throw it down Brittney Griner, throw it down!” Griner is only a freshman who dunked on occasion in high school.
Sammy Sosa’s bleached skin was so shocking that it zipped around the internet at warp speed. The Chicago Tribune explored the situation, and spoke to a former Cubs employee who is friendly with Sosa: “He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin, … Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting … He is in the middle of doing a cleansing process to his skin. The picture is deceiving. He said, ‘If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture.’ [Trib]
