Mike Vick Gets Closer to the Football Field: Next Month, Perhaps, a Halfway House
Courts, Legal, NFL December 16th. 2008, 2:30pm
Bet the Arthur Blank and the Falcons are going to be thrilled with this news: Next month, imprisoned former NFL QB Mike Vick could be moving to a halfway house.
While no date is given, how’s this for a monkey into the wrench of the opening weekend of the NFL playoffs: Atlanta at Minnesota on January 3rd or 4th, but stealing the headlines is the guy who used to be the Falcons’ franchise, Mike Vick, who gets moved to a halfway house the Friday prior. Probably makes Fidel Goodell so sick that he’ll do whatever he can to prevent it from happening.
We’d be lying if we said we weren’t somewhat excited about the prospect of Vick returning to the football field in 2009. Don’t care what team, and it’s doubtful that he’ll get a look at QB – at least not immediately – but Vick will only turn 29 next June, and assuming he’s been hitting the weights and staying in shape, we’re not sure why he couldn’t wedge his way onto an NFL roster next fall. Obviously he’s got issues to deal with, and his personality went from chill to insufferable once he hit the big-time, but in his prime, man, this guy was exciting to watch. Ironic that arguably his most famous on-field highlight came against the Vikings.

I, for one, welcome Mr. Vick into my community. It’s going to be weird seeing a former NFL QB sacking my grocieries.

I remember seeing that play and thinking “damn he is gonna be good”. Damn I was wrong.

he was awesome.

Actually Ron Mexico, QB for the Vikings makes a weird sort of sense.
They’re built around the run. So why not get Vick and Chester Taylor and Purple Jesus all in the same backfield?

Well if Jerry Jones loves the pub as much as he laid it on yesterday I’d say Mike has himself a home.

Is this his prisoner number, or the license plate of the $100,000 Mercedes he bought to drive to prison in?

dwalthi: The preceding comments will be debated ad nauseum by Dana Jacobson, Skip Bayless, Trey Wingo, Mike Tirico, Tony Kornheiser and 200 other fucking assholes on ESPN, starting around April 1, 2009.
Be prepared for the onslaught

jpq- Fucking great. Maybe they will have another lame ass town hall meething in Atlanta where all of the Vick supporters come out in droves and proclaim conspiracy. The felon went to prison over a year ago and has nothing to do with this team anymore. Fucking move on!

Can we get some examples of how he was ‘chill’? Because that can be interpreted in many ways.
December 16th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
he burned a lot of tree.

Sure, it’ll be covered in the news ad nauseum, but I don’t think the Falcons or the NFL are going to be that concerned with him getting pub. Let’s not overstate this.

I don’t care if they’re concerned about the coverage, I am. If he is signed by training camp, there will be breathless coverage of his every step, with an ESPN reporter embedded with the team. If he is NOT signed by training camp, there will be breathless coverage of what teams may be interested in him.
That’s all. I know it’s coming, I just don’t wanna watch. The guy deserves a chance to play, but the overexposure will make last summer’s Favrapalooza look like nothing.

As a U.S. Citizen I can’t wait to see Vick back in the NFL playing again… I’m definitely a Mike Vick fan!!!

up early, are we, Matt?
only 1-2 bullets left in the mythical economic gun … once they cut the rate to 0% and Bush bails out the auto industry, what can/will they do in 2009 to stop the madness?
