Boozer: “I’m Opting Out, No Matter What”
1-liner, NBA December 18th. 2008, 5:00pmCarlos Boozer: To the surprise of nobody, Boozer told ESPN’s Chris Sheridan, “I’m opting out. No matter what, I’m going to get a raise regardless. I am going to opt out, I don’t see why I wouldn’t, I think it’s a very good business decision for me and my family, but I’d also like to see what happens with the Jazz and stay here.” Paul Millsap and his 13 straight double-doubles are counting down to the day. See him in Miami next year. Or Oklahoma City.

Yeah, right. I’m sure he said the same thing to the Cavs four years ago. Just another Duke asshole. I hope the Jazz aren’t dumb enough to take that at face value.

If Boozer gets healthy and they can trade him for an interior defender/shotblocker/rebounder it could get them over the hump. They need to do something to get by L.A.

Millsap’s a restricted free agent (Utah can match) and is likely to receive decent offers from around the league.
The Jazz need to make a move. They desperately need a big man who can protect the rim and not Boozer nor Okur nor Millsap can do that. I’m also not sure Millsap at 6-8 can can defend big 4’s night in and night out, but what he’s done over the last few weeks has been remarkable (19ppg/12rpg).

it’d be poetic justice if no NBA team signed this grade A douchebag.

boozer’s 6′9” and can’t defend for shit…they’ll be fine.

“I am going to opt out, I don’t see why I wouldn’t, I think it’s a very good business decision for me and my family. I’m also going to find a blind man on the street and punch him in the face. Kind of like a metaphorical tradition so to speak.”

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone everyone opts out of their deal to sign a new one.

I would say 6-8 is being generous to Millsap. I do think they need to keep Millsap without breaking the bank, but they need to make a move. Checking ESPN’s trade machine, they could send Boozer to Charlotte for Okafor and Felton (I think Larry Brown would like this).

What’s a Paul Millsap?

Get ready arkbadger, only six more weeks and it’s all NBA all the time ’round these parts. Sadness.

Okafor would be great for the Jazz, I don’t know what Felton would do for them.
December 18th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Felton’s in the last year of his deal so the Jazz could just cut him loose at season’s end.

bsanders, at least by that time there will be some baseball posts that I care about. and i guess there was a college hoops post sprinkled in there somewhere. ah, fuck it. anyone want to talk hockey?

NSR – I actually really like that deal both ways. Utah would surely want another team involved to deal Felton though. And doesn’t Charlotte have to wait to deal Okafor since he just re-upped? Can’t remember the rules on base-year compensation.

A new twist on this story came out this afternoon when Jazz owner Larry Miller went on the local sports radio and said (paraphrasing from memory here) “Usually when something like this happens I would just say no comment. This is the type of stuff that as an organization we don’t talk about publicly. But I will say this. This is one of the top 10 stupidest things I’ve ever seen an NBA player do.” There should be a link on it either later tonight or tomorrow on the radio stations web page. The program was Locked on Sports. http://www.thefansports.com/blog/index.cfm?mode=cat&category_id=DB4A0AB6-1143-ECF2-4F4DF74CEE962F9A
