Afternoon of College Hoops
College Basketball December 20th. 2008, 2:03pm
It’s kind of depressing that we don’t have any college football games of significance to talk about today. Yeah, there are some bowl games on, but I’m guessing most of you are casually flipping around waiting for something better to watch.
Or you’re simply wondering how Homer got stuck inside Super Mario Brothers.
Either way, you’re in luck, starting now with college hoops on CBS:
#7 Xavier vs. #6 Duke (2pm): Any time college basketball not involving Seton Hall comes to the Meadowlands, particularly Duke, the game has potential to be memorable. There’s Christian Laettner’s* memorable buzzer beater against UConn (the prequel to his shot at the Spectrum), but there’s also this, which was just plain absurd and doesn’t get nearly enough run.
*The only time I ever liked Laettner was when Chris Farley pretended to be him.
#2 UConn vs. #7 Gonzaga (4pm): Rush The Court points out that this very match-up introduced us to Gonzaga basketball ten years ago. What a great tournament that was. Gonzaga came up short but UConn went on to surprise Duke — always pleasurable. Every year since their ‘arrival’, I’ve picked the Bulldogs to win a round or two in my pool but they’ve consistently screwed me. No brackets to ruin today though, just a good game.
And since we’re here, I’m pleased to tell you that Dan Dickau is still in the NBA. The bad part? He’s a member of the Clippers averaging 0.0 pts and 0.0 assists per game.
Another random note: This game will be played at Key Arena. Poor Seattle, I miss these unis.
For more on college hoops, make sure you head over to Rush The Court for a very thorough look at today’s action.

Michigan State beat Texas, Minnesota beat Louisville, and Purdue is currently whipping Davidson 25-2. I can’t wait to read about how much the Big Ten sucks tomorrow.

Perdue is like the 9th grade bully; they got their asses handed to them by the senior they mouthed off to (Duke), so they go and beat up a 12 year old boy (Steph Curry).
