The Jets Players (and the Media) Sure Sound Like They Don’t Want Favre Back
1-liner, NFL January 1st. 2009, 3:54pmFavre: Steve Serby, whose lone decent contribution to sports media was when he shared a TV show with Marv Albert titled, “Punt, Pass and Shtick,” says he doesn’t want Favre back. Why he has more clout than, say, a talking parrot, we’re not sure. Then RB Thomas Jones took a couple of jabs at Favre in a radio interview with HOT 97 (it really is too bad they don’t stream the station online – best rap station in the country, we’re certain of this). An anonymous player did the same in talking to Newsday. Stinks. One more year of Favre would be a good thing, people. Patience.

No offense TBL, but that’s in the running for most asanine thing you’ve ever posted. The only thing keep Favre for one more year will do is prevent your franchise from moving forward and hinder your chances of bringing in a viable head coach. No one wants to deal with his bullshit…or fall on the sword when he kills your chances with his terrible decisions. The only thing he’s doing by sticking around is extending his “records,” at the possible expense of his teflon media legacy.

Also, Thomas Jones was a top-10 performer at his position this year, was he not? I’m pretty sure he didn’t have a fumble for every touchdown. His opinion would matter to me if I were a player in that locker room.

1) Good business decision. Favre = more national TV exposure, more hype, more everything. More interceptions? Sure.
2) He had one year with the offense. One. What’s one more year? The Jets went from 4-12 to 9-7. Haven’t seen the 2009 sked yet, but 11 wins with an experienced QB and help for the defense is entirely possible.
3) I’d like a defensive-minded coach anyway.

It’s huge especially with a new stadium coming. Have to have a marquee name to go along with it. Woody likes money.

All press is good press, right?
You don’t need to see the schedule to know who they’ll be playing. They’ll be playing the AFC South and the NFC North, along with the third-place teams from the AFC West and AFC North, meaning the Raiders and Bengals. They could easily drop all four games against the AFC South. They’ll likely split against the NFC North and split their divisional games. They look like an 8-8 team to me.
By the way, that five-win swing wasn’t a product of Favre, it was improved offensive line play and a much more respectable defense. But of course ESPN and the national media would have you believe it was all because of him.

Jets also played the league’s 27th hardest schedule this year. I think 8-8 next year would be considered a success.

TBL – Favre won’t get a 2nd year in a system. With a new coach comes a new system.

so the 5-win improvement had nothing to do with favre … missing the playoffs had everything to do with favre. got it.
which is why im on board for a coach who preaches defense, and find a coordinator who can work with favre and a system he likes (and one that suits the needs of clemens). i think you’ve got to play to your strengths, instead of trying to jam a square into a hole.

There you go twisting peoples’ words to fit your logic again. I didn’t say it had nothing to do with Favre, I said it wasn’t a product of Favre like the national media would have you believe. I think it had more to do with Faneca coming in and solidifying the nucleus of he, Mangold and Ferguson and allowing Jones to flourish. That and Jenkins made a huge difference in their defense’s performance.
The Jets have an average roster. They’re an 8-8 team. If you want to bring back Favre you’re only doing it because of the attention it brings. If that’s what you’re after, God bless. It does nothing in terms of making your team better for the future. And with a much tougher schedule next year, by sticking with Favre you’re just asking for a 6-10 finish with 25+ picks and a lightning storm of criticism. That oughta help sell those PSL’s.

In the last five games of the season, Favre threw 2 TD and 9 INTs. By some bizarre, inexplicable coincidence, the Jets went 1-4 in those games, with the one win coming only after divine intervention. In another bizarre, inexplicable coincidence, the Jets went from 1st place to 3rd place in the AFC East in that 5-game span. Aren’t those coincidences bizarre and inexplicable? Weird, right?
Wait a minute. Is it possible that Favre’s play (along with, it should be noted, some terrible coaching) could have been a big part of the Jets’ collapse?
No. No, that’s just crazy talk.

On another note, you’re completly right about Hot97, even if your comment was tongue-in-cheek. Come on down to Lexington…you’ll kill yourself listening to ANY station.
