It’s like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.

I just woke up to hear Bob Ryan tell America that Utah should be 5th because “we all know” that Utah couldn’t beat USC, Texas, Florida, or Oklahoma.
*sigh
Why even bother fucking playing the games if we are going to ignore the results and vote the way we want to anyway?
January 4th, 2009 at 10:51 am
Does anybody think we would benefit if there were no preseason rankings?

It’s called Democracy. Get some!

I want Ray on my team!
And Jay, the problem with Ryan is that he and his lot think they are the guardians and only true prophets of sport. They know that Utah couldn’t possibly beat USC or Oklahoma.
Just like they couldn’t beat Bama.

Bob Ryan thinks wifebeating is funny (see: Jason Kidd). He probably hasn’t watched a college football game since Doug Flutie played. And yet, he has anointed himself as spokesman for America and decided that USC is better than Utah because they will have more starters in the NFL.

Dungy + Manning = playoff choking frauds.

I agree with you Mike, the Colts did the same shit last year. They jump out to a lead and then tighten up and blow it. How they won that title that year is beyond me.

Just ignore him and every other general columnist whose only column on college football is the annual “the BCS is terrible” column after the national championship because USC is somehow slighted because they weren’t automatically given a berth into the championship game.
Seriously, it’s getting a bit ridiculous. USC is a great team in a crappy conference that always craps the bed once or twice to keep them out of the national championship game, then destroys some overrated Pac-10 team at home in the Rose Bowl and somehow is considered the best team in the nation. Fun fact: the only undefeated team in the nation beat the same team that beat USC. So if Utah can beat Oregon State, it stands to reason that they could also beat USC. Then again, Salt Lake City is in fly over country, so Utah doesn’t exist.
Note to general columnists like Mitch Albom and Bob Ryan: just don’t talk about college football. It will never be the NFL, so it will never be what you want it and every other sport to be. Just humor us mere fans that have the gall to prefer college football to the No Fun League and avoid pointing out how much better the game would be if college football just moved into a playoff where 6 teams would compete for the right to face USC in the rose bowl for the national championship.

she has real pretty legs and stuff.

Dude I understand your frustration with these columnist and am also sick of the love USC etc get ad nauseum…(Herbstreit was a total ass in the RB broadcast)…But don’t drag the NFL into this…There are more NFL fans than College and most of us love both. The only way these bullshit love for power houses will end is a Playoff…Because the very thing that now gives them an advantage…(National media hype that helps recruiting) is the very thing that would crush them in a Playoff.
The game needs a better ending ….

Yes, how dare the NFL choose to elect their champion on the field.
Elitists.
January 4th, 2009 at 11:44 am
Not as much as they will if they don’t reconstruct the interior of both their offensive and defensive lines. It may be cliche, but it’s not a coincidence that the only year they’ve won the Super Bowl was when they ran the ball well and stopped the run in January. But since Booger McFarland, Jake Scott and Ryan Lilja aren’t walking through those doors…
Ah fuck it, I’m going to watch The Wrestler again, the NFL’s dead to me now until the draft. Go Carolina…or anyone other than the Titans, Steelers, Chargers or Giants. So yeah…Carolina.

What’s funny is all of these idiot fish hacks crying about the BCS don’t realize that if they all voted teams like Utah #1 every year the system would be forced to change.
January 4th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Why does someone always have to “choke” in a big game? Couldn’t one say that the Chargers just played a better game yesterday instead of saying the Colts choked?
Lets be honest here folks: If Utah played in a BCS conference, there is no way they would’ve been undefeated. It’s very easy to get motivated and prepared for a big game 2-3 times a year when the rest of your games are against Slimeball U. If you have to go against top BCS conference teams 8 or 9 weeks in a row, a loss is almost guaranteed.

Isn’t it ironic?
