No. 1 North Carolina Loses - in Chapel Hill - to Unranked Boston College, 85-78
College Basketball, NFL January 4th. 2009, 7:53pm
Well, guess that makes Pitt the No. 1 team in the country? Don’t think anyone predicted this one. So much for the Tar Heels being a lock to win the title. UNC jacked a ton of three’s, and missed far too many free throws (15-for-27). This is a much worse loss than the Connecticut one to Georgetown.
If you’ve got FOX Sports, then you’re probably settling in for Virginia Tech and Duke - the Hokies have played Xavier and Wisconsin tough, and two years ago, stunned Duke at Cameron in the game when Deron Washington notoriously teabagged Greg Paulus twice. (And of course there’s the 2005 game, won by Duke on a 40-footer at the buzzer by Sean Dockery.) Otherwise, you’ll probably ponder next weekend’s rematch-filled NFL schedule:
Saturday:
Baltimore at Tennessee
Arizona at Carolina
Sunday:
Philadelphia at NY Giants
San Diego at Pittsburgh
Tennessee beat Baltimore by three in a close earlier meeting; Carolina rallied to defeat Arizona earlier this season, and Pittsburgh nipped San Diego about eight weeks ago. The Eagles and Giants split their two meetings.

I love Mike Krzyzewski’s offense.
January 4th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
This NBC stuff really is funny shit. Old SNL sports skits.
January 4th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Quizz, it has changed alot thanks to D’Antonio. That first year with Team USA really opened up the offense.
January 4th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
I did not know that. Their floor spacing is immaculate. Not trying to use hyperbole.

I’m watching the Under Armour High School All-America Game
/crosses fingers and hopes that Russell Shepard is the real deal
January 4th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
UNC loses and LeBron gets called for travelling all in the same day?!!!!!!!!! 2009 is going to be special.
January 4th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
David Stern will be disposing off the ref’s body in a dumpster tonight.
January 4th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Jay,
I tried watching some of the Army High School game but then I remember that if professional football “all-star” games are shitty then why in the world high school football would be any good….I wasn’t let down.

ABC, baby; ABC.

Ed Reed has an outstanding beard.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
The game is pretty lousy. Shepard just completed a long one for a TD though
January 4th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
i had the plan of making this another NFL post, but then UNC lost and i got too lazy to change the pic

So Boston College may have a new football coach.

That’s what I’m thinking. Carolina scares the shit out of me though. Any chance Warner knocks off Carolina? Someone humor me
January 4th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
how is the Carolina secondary? what will the weather be like?
has arizona done well in any of its games on the east coast? i think they led at Carolina (when the weather was warm) and then lost in the 4th
January 4th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Stupid on BC’s part, but they wouldn’t lose anything with Steve Logan at the helm.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
I like Arizona’s chances better at a warm weather stadium… I think it’s a tossup. Definitely think Eagles over Giants. Eagles-Colts Superbowl.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
And when I say Colts… I was thinking Baltimore. Ravens. Ravens-Eagles Superbowl.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Carolina’s secondary is solid, the weather forcast is high of 52 with rain, and Carolina used the bye week to get healthy.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I really, really hate FSN’s camera angles. They are the only college basketball productions that use courtside and behind the basket angles for more than 30% of the game.

“UNC jacked a ton of three’s, and missed far too many free throws (15-for-27).”
No. Not a Roy William’s coached team. Impossible.
I’m toggling between Tech/Duke and a NWA behind the music type thing.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Under no circumstances should you take the Cardinals next weekend. They can’t defend the pass, they can’t stop the run, they are making the dreaded cross-country trip, and now they are satisfied after their home victory. There’s just no reason to think they are capable of staying with Carolina.
Anyone else read the Vikings trainer’s lips when he said “HE CAN’T GO BACK IN” to Childress after AP got smacked and clearly dazed by Dawkins? AP was standing their begging to go in. He was back in very shortly afterwards. Had to chuckle.
January 4th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
The Eagles have played well but it scares me that so many people assume they’ll beat NY. Losing Plax (who kills Philly) hurts but the Giants are still a solid team. Beating NY at home twice in one season is a tough task.
With that said, Philly’s defense will definitely give them a chance
January 4th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
holding turner to under 50 yards rushing means nothing?
(just playing devil’s advocate; plus, the panthers are like -9.5 favorites, which is a lot)
January 4th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Carolina is giving 10.
Wow.
January 4th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Is the line out for Eagles-Giants?
January 4th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
TEN -3
CAR -10
NYG -4
PIT -6
January 4th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
those are brutal lines. no way i could go 3-1 like this weekend.
my leans would be Baltimore +3, and i suppose the Eagles at 4. I wonder how Pitt will do with Big Ben’s injury, and the LT injury. Sproles going nuts against Indy at home is one thing; no way he’s duplicating that outdoors against Pitt.
will take a long, hard look at AZ +10.
January 4th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
Philly isn’t facing Tavaris Jackson next week.
January 4th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Giants line sounds about right. I didn’t think ANY line this postseason would be more than 7, but I also didn’t see Arizona advancing. Still, pretty big spread
January 4th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
“Philly isn’t facing Tavaris Jackson next week.”
Philly didn’t face Jackson at NY in December either
January 4th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
13 points for Tech in the second half, it was fun to watch them lose.
January 4th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Arizona is going to win.
January 5th, 2009 at 1:11 am
Hey TBL, can you do a piece on how ESPN’s new page looks just like Yahoo’s sport page? And how it’s still slow as hell and full of pointless content?
January 5th, 2009 at 1:32 am
AZ lost by 4(23-27) @Carolina earlier in the season, after leading for most of the game. I think you can take them and the points, especially if it stays at -10. Can they win? Sure; anything can happen. Will they? As much as I’d like to see it, I highly doubt it(Boldin is questionable, and James will be keyed on, thus making him pretty much null and void). Besides, Carolina is 8-0 at home this year…
