Shelved: The Thought that UNC is Invincible
College Basketball January 5th. 2009, 11:00am
A loss. At home. To unranked Boston College. The team chosen by the media to finish 11th in the 12-team ACC. One senior on the roster.
Tyrese Rice, who led everyone with 25 points: “You look at people playing defense against them – people’s hands were back. When [they] drive, [opponents are] just standing straight up, they’re not trying to contest shots. I couldn’t even look at the tape because everybody’s scared.
And here we thought the key was simply containing Ty Lawson (which BC did – 10 points, four turnovers, four assists). You’ve just got to tune out the media hype, push back, and let trigger-happy Wayne Ellington (so overrated) and everyone else jack three’s.
UNC fans are in loser denial, just chalking it up as another loss. If you thought it wasn’t possible to dislike the Tar Heels any greater than you already do, these comments should do it. Reality is over here; the world where UNC is the best, Roy is a deity, and the sun always shines can be found on that link.
A week ago, UConn went down and it was widely assumed that North Carolina was the heavily front-runner for the title, distantly followed by everyone else. Is it wide open now? Who’s to say that Miami – somewhat similar to BC in that it has one very good guard and decent role players – won’t give UNC fits? Or will everyone read too much into this, and in reality, UNC was just looking ahead to Wake Forest, whom it plays on Sunday?

You know who sucks? Wayne Ellington. This proves that Roy Williams is a fraud. How can you allow him to shoot the 3 ball? Pitt > UNC. Jamie Dixon doesn’t play that shit.

We’ll know a lot more after they play at Wake Forest who won a big game at BYU over the weekend. I’ll reserve judgement until then.

Should make that Duke/UNC matchup a little more entertaining now.
I just went to ESPN to find when the game is (Feb. 11), and that site redesign is beyond awful.

“Is it wide open now?”
It’s always been wide open…but the Heels are still the favorites. The undefeated talk was nonsense. They’ll lose 2 or 3 more during the regular season, but I wouldn’t bet against them winning the title under any circumstance.

DeJuan Blair would eat the starting five on UNC

And I agree with whoever said they have their work cut out for them in losing holiday weight; I stepped on the scale at the doctor’s office earlier today, and while it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, it was enough to motivate me to get off my ass after the Fiesta Bowl.

I still say UNC is “the heavily front-runner for the title”. Get off the Big East’s nuts.

A Roy Williams team shooting too many threes? Bollucks.

DeJuan Blair would eat the starting five on UNC
him against Thompson would be nice to watch

A bunch of teams still have a chance to win 6 in a row in the tournament. UNC remains one of those teams.

Rice dropped 48 on Carolina last year, this really wasn’t all that shocking.

So you’re saying we shouldn’t give out the player of the year award in mid-December and hand out the Siemens Trophy before New Years?

Congratulations, ESPN. Your much hyped redesign completely misses the point. I just want to type in http://www.espn.com and have the page load quickly. Of course, the redesign is completely opposite of that.

TBL, can you do a post on the Chris Mortenson – Oakland Raiders slap fight? It’s getting funny.
January 5th, 2009 at 11:30 am
yup. already written. but it’s coming later today. much more fun coming prior to that
January 5th, 2009 at 11:31 am
also, the espn redesign post is written. i even had to push 2 items that would be good today, back to tomorrow. busy busy …

The design is horrid. For one they ripped off Yahoo Sports, two there are naturally more ads so I’ve gotta start adblocking more shit, three the scoreboard page? Gray text on white background? BRILLIANT!
January 5th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Thanks for keeping us sane at work TBL, you’re truly doing God’s work my friend.
January 5th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Get yoself jacked up, son!
January 5th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Tyrese Rice is a stud. He ate Lawson up. The block by Sanders in the second half on Ellington (maybe Green) was ridiculous.

mole – if not for ads, they dont make money. i know that’s a frustrating aspect for a reader, but for the .com to pay its people to dig up news and provide analysis and features … they need those ads.
i did stop asking people to click on ads awhile ago, though, because i know people didnt like that.
January 5th, 2009 at 11:47 am
ads are one thing but splash page ads, ads that hover over links and trick you into clicking them, and ones that have sound, are all staples of espn.
its rare that i see any ads on any sites anymore, thanks to mozilla
January 5th, 2009 at 11:47 am
TBL -
At least we have the option on clicking on your ads. The first page that comes up is a video embedded ad on espn. Horrible.
January 5th, 2009 at 11:50 am
I agree with KC: Ads on the internet are understandable; tolerable when you have the option of clicking on them, and enraging when they jump out of nowhere and start playing sounds. Hopefully my friends who are advertising managers do something about this.

I have been on an almost complete boycott of ESPN for about a year now. Everything about ESPN makes me angry. I hated the videos (aka commercials) that would start playing the second you went to the page. I started noticing almost all of the Top Stories dealt exclusively with the East Coast sports market. And their hockey coverage is practically nonexistent.
The only sports websites I check regularly now are Yahoo and Sports Illustrated.

TBL, if you want uber-annoying UNC fan comments, go to . I get a lot of info about the Heels on there b/c I’m a fan (horrible loss last night, btw. can’t understand Roy sometimes), but going on there after a loss is unbearable, no matter who you root for.

Carolina fans are, for the most part, flaming assholes, both online and in real life. I live smack dab in the middle of ACC Country, and have encountered more UNC fans than I care to remember. Almost to a person(male and female alike), they are insufferable; even moreso than Dukies.
