Number of Sportswriters Who Had Utah Ranked At the Start of the Football Season: Zero
1-liner, College Basketball, Media Gossip/Musings January 6th. 2009, 10:00amWhere’s the Argument for Utah?: Don’t expect one, considering not one sportswriter with a vote had Utah in the Top 25 at the start of the season. Guess we shouldn’t be surprised that four of the Top 10 weren’t ranked going into the bowl games, and two were outside the Top 10. Why do we have preseason rankings again? Oh, and it’s great to know that some of the folks in the Harris Interactive Poll hadn’t seen Utah play in the regular season. (A Large Regular, Yahoo Sports)

How did they have 53 points if no one voted for them?

Why do we have preseason rankings again?
To generate magazine sales for bloated preseason issues and to provide endless debate on tv, radio, and the internet.

Is anyone actually going to read the article and offer decent feedback? It’s pretty funny to see who actually gets to vote in the Harris Poll. I’d love a playoff, but the problem isn’t with the computers, it’s the humans. I don’t think you need 100+ voters like the Harris does. Leave it at 16 and make them guys like Kiper who actually watch more football in a year than most of us watch in a lifetime.
