Myron Rolle Push the NFL Back a Year, Prefers to Study at Oxford
1-liner, College Football, NFL January 13th. 2009, 9:30amMyron Rolle: How on earth did he fit in at Free Shoes University? Rolle told the NY Times (via text message!) that he’s going to Oxford to honor his Rhodes Scholarship instead of entering the NFL draft. He’ll get his master’s in medical anthropology, and enter the 2010 draft. (NYT)

Jenn Sterger and Myron Rolle, the most prominent recent graduates of FSU. I think this is the last thing they will share in common.

I wondered this myself for a while, it just didn’t make sense. I think the bigger question here is will this start a trend where good student-athletes attend FSU in the future, or was Rolle just the diamond that threw himself into the rough?

Good for him, but this is probably a bad business decision. Oxford isn’t going anywhere.
I don’t know how good this guy is, but if he projects to be borderline, he should probably hit the draft. Taking a year off might end his chances.

Maybe, but maybe there is mad money in Medical Anthropology.

Did anyone else see that episode of the simpsons where maggie takes that intelligence test and they say that “she can already teach at florida state”?

Corey Booker
That was supposed to read…maybe he takes the career path of Newark Mayor Corey Booker – former football player who was also a Rhodes Scholar skips the pro’s to do other things. Then again I do not know what Booker’s pro prospects were and he went to an undergraduate university better known than FSU for its academics.

I know that guy.

Actually if he doesn’t take the Rhodes scholarship now, then he gives it up. He can’t use it later.

Take it, get your diploma and then go onto the NFL.
As for fitting at FSU, well, even smart guys like dumb girls every now and again.

He is a starting football player at Florida State which means every girl in the state of Florida wants to shag him. The talent there is probably out of control dude and he was still able to get his studies in order and achieve this amazing opportunity. Looks like Myron Rolle is doing just fine with his decisions, so I doubt him choosing Oxford over the NFL is a bad move.
He will probably end up like Donovan and become a Trustee of the university if he can have a semi-decent football career.
