Ballin’: Bynum’s Back and He’s Gonna Have …
NBA January 22nd. 2009, 10:15amLA Lakers 108, LA Clippers 97: Ba-ba-ba Bynum! He wasn’t having the breakout season many anticipated, but he erupted with a career-high 42 points and 15 boards against the Paper Clips. It isn’t often that a Kobe triple-double (18-12-10) is completely overshadowed, but besides the Bynum statline, Clippers rookie center Deandre Jordan, in starting just his second NBA game, scored 23 points and took 12 rebounds.
Phoenix 109, New York 114: The Knicks bench outscored the Suns reserves 57-18 and New York surprisingly won for the fourth time in six games. Chris Duhon (!) had 19-7-6. Steve Nash, the two-time former MVP, only had 9-19-6. The Duhon-Nash dichtomy is one that will have scholars scratching their heads years from now. And then, the a-ha moment will come when someone remembers that the influence is attributed to an Italian genius named D’Antoni.
Boston 98, Miami 83: No looking ahead to Orlando for the Celtics – they jumped out to a massive lead and coasted. D Wade was the only Heat starter that came to play – he scored 25. The rest of them tallied 12. Here’s what we don’t get about Doc – with the game such a blowout, why have your three stars log 32 minutes or more with the Magic looming tonight?
Cleveland 104, Portland 98: LeBron. Dominant. Again. He dropped 34 points and 14 assists, and Mo Williams added 33 points and a clutch three late. Portland shot just 40 percent from the field and got 10-8 from Greg Oden in 25 foul-plagued minutes. Nice read here on how Portland’s Martell Webster was/is so in awe of LeBron that he asked him to autograph sneakers before a game last year. And here’s everything you ever wanted to know about LeBron’s visit to the arena last night.
Utah 99, Houston 108: If anyone can tell us how on earth the Rockets are winning without T-Mac and Artest – they’re beating and competing with good teams – please do so. Von Wafer, he of the sub $800k contract, continues to surprise, scoring 21 points. It was his 10th straight double-digit scoring performance this month; he had one in the three years prior.

Wait. You’re allowed to score 40+ points on less than 30 shots? Why wasn’t I informed?
/Kobe

i wish i could’ve made it through to the end of last night’s game…but since it was on the west coast and i had to be at work, it wasn’t in the cards.
fuck the west coast.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:18 am
The Wiz won on the road for the 3rd time in their last 22 tries…
/realizes no one cares
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
so Bynum and Jordan can’t play any defense.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
Bynum > Oden
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:27 am
so pumped for the game tonight. I cant wait to yell at Kendrick Perkins tonight
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:28 am
heyaaaaa heyaaaaa, bynum’s back!
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:28 am
Thread Jack: I know there are quite a few The Wire fans on here. Amazon, as part of their HBO boxed set week, has the complete series for $82. It’s in the “today’s deals” section.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:31 am
bought.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:40 am
Only.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:40 am
Irish! Perk is back. C’s are back. Lets’ do this!!
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:41 am
HUGE game tonight. Doc Rivers has made it known that he hates losing to the team that kicked him to the curb. He still makes Orlando is home
Dwight needs to be focused tonight. No foul trouble
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:42 am
@walfredo- last time you beat us, we didnt have Nelson playing. You will see a more improved point guard running this team and running circles around your BOY Rondo
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:44 am
irish-the key will be the PGs. Jameer has to come up big.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:45 am
Wow, what a deal, thanks for the heads up. Purchased1
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:46 am
Running circles? We’ll see.
If Rueben Patterson was the Kobe-stopper, then Perk is the Dwight Stopper.
And it’s a big game, but let’s not go over board with capital letters and all.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:51 am
PERK sucks. He cant hang with Dwight
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:52 am
If Rueben Patterson was the Kobe-stopper, then Perk is the Dwight Stopper
weak analogy. and its than, not then. Even i know that
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:53 am
He can minimize Dwight. That’s all he needs to do.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:55 am
Whoa whoa whoa, no goddamn grammar lessons here!
And it’s actually a decent analogy. Average player who has some defensive success against a top-5 guy. Perk has had success vs. Dwight.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:55 am
irish-the key will be the PGs. Jameer has to come up big
true. Im more worried about the rookie Courtney Lee going against Jesus Shuttlesworth. He guarded Kobe the other night and did okay. we will see
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:57 am
fuck the west coast
Fuck the East Coast, because apparently 60% of this country thinks the United States stops just west of Missouri and then picks up again in L.A.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:57 am
Nothing about how Gallinari (spell?) is angry at the Knicks because everytime he scores they play “That’s Amore”?
/Hate.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:05 am
Actually over 75%.
People who live in East/Central time zone, ~230 million
People who live in Mountain/West, ~ 70 million.
Fuck the west coast, play games at a decent hour.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:06 am
60% > 40%
/science
orlando rolls over boston…
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:08 am
@spencer- i wouldnt say “rolls”. I have a feeling it is going to be close and come down to the last minute of the game
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:16 am
irish…you wouldn’t say that because you’re a fan of the magic and nervous. im impartial and don’t really care who wins, but im loving the way the magic are playing and don’t think there’s a team that they couldn’t beat right now.
plus, they just smoked SA and beat LA, and both those teams are better than the celts.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:23 am
damn right im nervous. I cant even concentrate on work today. My boy in the office is a Boston fan and he wore his KG jersey today(It is casual week). Every morning i see him and tell him KG sucks. It is good stuff
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 am
damn, it is a regular season NBA game! you might have a heart attack if they can get to the East Finals.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:31 am
go write another post on why the Pistons are doing so poorly this year
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:32 am
i wasn’t insulting you, relax.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:33 am
“plus, they just smoked SA and beat LA, and both those teams are better than the celts.”
Not true at all. C’s are the champs! They hit a rut, cuz they’ve played more games than anyone in the league, but they’re back. They could lose an individual game to anyone, but the only team that has a chance to beat them in a series is the LeBrons.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:37 am
walfredo…i wouldn’t sleep on the magic, especially when they’re playing at home. when they start raining 3’s, it’s almost impossible to beat em.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:40 am
True Spence. They’ve been playing great. Not sleeping on them. But don’t sleep on C’s. They hit one rough patch but they’ve now won 6 in a row again, and in a seven game series, I still think the Magic are soft, like LA.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:40 am
spencer- your comments need more Paul Pierce hate.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:43 am
come on…no team is as soft as LA…except maybe the knicks.
and i will continue to sleep on a team that has paul pierce on it…he might be my least favorite athlete of all time. actually no, i hate cal ripken more, but PP is right there. tho ive come around on KG and can see past the BS…and the celts are good, but rivers needs to start giving the big 3 some more time on the bench to ease up a bit. take a page out of the SA book.
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 am
Fuck KG. He’s a bitch.
January 22nd, 2009 at 12:25 pm
The Magic are soft? I think we need the definition of soft. where is jmorris when you need him?
January 22nd, 2009 at 12:34 pm
They hit a rut, cuz they’ve played more games than anyone in the league, but they’re back.
toronto has played the same amount. 44 games
January 22nd, 2009 at 1:43 pm
