David Wells Has the Audacity To … Ah, Who Are We Kidding. It’s Only David Wells

If fat, mouthy David Wells has issues with Joe Torre’s book, fine. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion. But to mention “The Code” as his argument? Oh no he did-int:
“What we do as athletes, that’s our problem, our business, and a lot of guys have come out and destroyed that,” Wells said. “That’s why they don’t have any friends. You just don’t do that, and that’s what Joe did. When you break the code, you’re a punk.”
The code: Hurting sports since forever. [Full disclosure: Haven't read the book.] The truth hurts too bad, so let’s just bury it and never talk about it, and never give the fans – many of whom worship the sport – a true glimpse of what really is going on.
Which is why we find all this bashing of the Torre book laughable. We’ve heard yahoos calling into radio stations talking about how some of the passages “damage” his legacy.
Why?
Since when is speaking the truth punishable by never getting invited back to Old Timer’s Day? Alex Rodriguez had a kid fetching his coffee. Brian Cashman was difficult to work with. What’s the big deal? We want the curtain pulled back.
And here with thought this juvenile fan behavior was limited to clueless college basketball and college football fans.
Pathetic.
David Wells’ reaction proves Torre right on hefty lefty (New York Daily News)

i heard wells on russo’s show yesterday and it seemed from the interview:
1) torre hated wells or maybe it was a two-way hate?
2) wells got fined quite a bit (six figures total in one year) by torre for basically doing the same thing that torre is doing now that is talking openly about clubhouse happenings, so wells claims.

It’s everywhere.

David Wells calling anyone out on breaking the “code” is like David Wells calling out John Daly for being a fat slob.

I love that Joe Torre did this book. It is just a bit hypocritical, considering how pissed off he was when David Wells did his.

maybe it’s one thing to do it when you’re still on the team and in the clubhouse (was Wells still with the Yankees then?)

Frank Thomas read that quote this morning and spit his coffee out all over his computer monitor. Barry Bonds read that quote this morning and spit his steroids out all over his computer monitor.

In another life, David Wells would be a truck driver making $40,000 a year.

So what’s Wells going to do? Put a beat down on him?

I think more of the criticism is Torre being two-faced. All of this went on while he was there, but if he is Mr. Honesty, why didn’t he talk about it then. Oh right, because he was saving it for a book, and was being selfish.

Why would anyone take the word of a 40+ year old drunk who acted like a 5 year old by turning the radio up after Torre turned it down? Wow, what respect for your teammates and coaching staff. And, did everyone forget he threw the perfect game while cocked? That takes class. And he’s calling Torre a punk for writing a book? Please.
Honestly, I could care less about what David Wells thinks about Joe Torre because even if everything in this book is true, Torre still has more class in his big toe than Wells will ever have.

Well, I for one think of David Wells before anyone else when I’m looking for etiquette advice.
