Memories of Paul Pierce Being Wheeled Off the Court
NBA, Video February 5th. 2009, 6:15pmTonight, a rematch of a Christmas Day game and also last year’s NBA Finals. On Christmas, the Lakers snapped Boston’s 19-game winning streak. It seems unlikely they’ll be able to break Boston’s 12-game win streak tonight, not without Andrew Bynum and not on the second night of back-to-backs.

Yea Lakers will win, and by at least double figures.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Pierce is a pussy.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Which wrestlers theme song do you think would’ve worked best with pierce coming back out? My personal favorite is the broken glass intro from stone cold.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Pierce IS so overrated to me, KG is the MAN on that team !!!
Kobe, LBJ, D-Wade, Even Injury-prone T-Mac are Way Better than him IMO.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
“When you hear the glass”
IT’S YOUR ASS!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
how is pierce overrated? he was so dominant in the playoffs last year.
wade and pierce both have a title. wade is more flashy, but also more injury prone; i love me some t-mac, but the dude hasn’t been out of the first round, ever.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Taking Vandy, Illinois, Michigan tonight…
February 5th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Fixed for realism
February 5th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
And Cassel gets the franchise tag. Gotta be thinking trade him for picks at this point, unless they really don’t think Brady can make it back to start the season. 14.65 mil for your backup QB is just hard to fathom.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
Cassel is probably there just for insurance. They can hold on to him and see how Brady recovers in the next few months. There’s no way they would’ve let Cassel go, especially not with how shrewd they’ve been in the past about paying players
February 5th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Is it hate on the Celtics day? It wasn’t marked on my calendar.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
If Brady is slow to recover, do you think they’ll put him on IR and just keep Cassel as the starting QB for the whole year? They can’t afford to keep both and still be under the cap right?
February 5th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
Pierce’s true reason for needing the wheelchair was a yeast infection.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
pierce overrated? HA very laughable
February 5th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Great point made by Mike Lombardi on the Simmons podcast. If the NFL goes to an uncapped 2010 year then Cassel isn’t a free agent next year because the rookie umbrella goes from 5 years to 6 years making him Patriot property hence franchising him this year.
You have to think the Patriots know that.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Pierce is a beast for sure, but that shit he pulled in the playoffs last year getting wheeled off the court was ridiculous.
February 5th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
So they own his rights for another year, but at what cap figure, the same annual salary as his rookie deal? Or do they just own his rights but still have to come to terms on the salary? This whole “uncapped year” thing could really screw some things up, especially with this economy. You have to think some cashstrapped teams are thinking they’ll shed their highest salaries, tank a season and try to balance their checkbooks.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
To be honest I have no idea at what salary they own his rights. All I know is that they have them.
Right on with the uncapped year. Fans think that their team will throw money at every free agent, but whats going to happen is that owners start to shed payroll and help drive salaries down, not up.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
I dont think they can do that. I think IR players still count against the cap.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Most definitely. Owners who are hesitant to throw cash around (i.e. the Bidwells) will skew more toward the Florida Marlins’ business model whereas owners like Snyder could try and Yankee-fy their roster by adding a couple high-priced skill-position players, whatever premier left tackle is available, and any feared edge rusher. Although, you have to think, by the start of 2010’s free agency period, the economy could still very well be in the tank. We’ll no more after we see how many season ticket holders re-up for 2009. Thank goodness for revenue sharing, at least.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
cracker, you’re right. I don’t know why I thought IR freed cap space. I want to say I got it from an old version of Madden, but I can’t be sure.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
But yeah, they’ll just hang on to him until training camp, and see what Brady’s progress is. They have all the time in the world.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Correct. IR-ed players count against the salary cap, just not the 53-man roster. That’s why when players who are solid performers undergo an injury that results in them being IR-ed (Booger McFarland, Roosevelt Colvin) teams typically cut them in the offseason if there’s a good chance they won’t return to form by the next season. It’s hard to carry guys on your salary cap who you know won’t play a down that season.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
baseless prediction: Brady will not start the opener.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I’ll take that bet. He might look completely unlike himself like Manning did for the first few weeks of this season, but he’ll take the Pats’ first snap of the regular season.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
What are the chances that, if Cassel plays at an elite status, the Pats would cut Brady? Assuming he sits out a significant amount of the season, if not entirely
February 5th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
I would say the chances are low but not out of the question. He would be 33 if he doesnt play full-time until the start of 2010. Cassel would need to play exceptionally well though, like pro bowl, playoff wins, and maybe even a super bowl appearance to really put pressure on the pats to make that decision.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
sanders – thing is, the Colts had no viable backup option. it was Peyton or a loss.
cassel IS a viable option, and there’s no need to risk further injury if he’s not 100%
February 5th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Jim Sorgi resents your comment
February 5th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Call me I think Brady will be just fine. Almost a year’s worth of recuperating time? I’m with sanders, he may take a few weeks to get into the swing of things ala Manning, but he will be foaming at the mouth to start in September.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
That’s call me crazy. Call me crazy.
February 5th, 2009 at 7:30 pm

February 5th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Will it take Kobe longer than 33 minutes to get his 61?
February 5th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
correction, 37!
February 5th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
No, cause Pierce is God.

fetch- good stuff.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
msu, who’s your favorite team?
February 5th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Dammit, missed five. The early 80’s are tough if you weren’t alive for them and the players didn’t turn out to be shit.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Manchester United. Born and raised on them since Mark Hughes was playing for them in the early 90’s. It’s tough because Steven Gerrard is my favorite player but I’m true to United.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
got 22 on that, early 80s killed me as well.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Well we can’t be friends anymore. I’m a Chelsea fan who is bitter over the last couple years.
I’m also a pretty big Fulham fan too.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Haha, sorry about that. Do you think Arsenal will be any better with Arshavin now? I think Aston Villa is more of a threat than them to be honest.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
It seems like Arsenal needed to fortify their middle a little bit more than they needed a striker, but I’m no expert. Villa is playing really well. With Abromovich’s money problems I’ve kinda given up on this season, especially in the league. Hopefully they can make a Champions League run though. As long as they don’t run into Man U apparently.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
someone page duffy, there’s more soccer talk going on here than after one of his posts
February 5th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
damn, how about that office?
love me some rashida jones, even if she’s preggo.
solid work by pam, and dwight may have had the line of the show – about how his brain (?) regenerates at twice the speed of other people’s
February 5th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
I was thinking the same thing. Wenger will probably play him as an attacking mid and play Denilson as a holding mid. Either way, Arsenal are shit. 4-6 is the position they need to be hoping for.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
And yes, Great episode TBL.

February 5th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
good find the NFL draft. only hit 19 … missed David Carr and Russell Maryland, those hurt
February 5th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
look at wisconsin playing well!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
I got everyone from Steve Emtmann (God, what a horrid pick that was) on, but the drafts that occurred when I was under 10 years of age were tough. I almost got tripped up on the Bo Jackson one. God, the Bucs used to be terrible. The Colts picked number one overall three times in an eight-year span, too. Sometimes I forget how awful that franchise was for so long. Give me one and done’s over that anyday!
February 5th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Easiest by far, I got them all right, in order, with 2:21 left.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Rondo in the face of Kobe. get ‘em young’n
February 5th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Makblunt, you beat me by 3 seconds.
February 5th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
26 on the nfl draft. Missed ‘81, ‘82, and ‘88
February 5th, 2009 at 10:04 pm

February 5th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
if the lakers are making foul shots, they have a nice cushion. instead, they’re tied with 6 mins left.
February 5th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
wow, are those the only celebs in the house? a guy from BBD and Chris Evans? for the lakers only trip to boston? Weak. maybe i missed one or two.
February 5th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
I got 26 right, and I can’t believe I missed Bo Jackson.
February 5th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
who was the guy before chris evans?
February 5th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Flame on!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
face
February 5th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Wow the Celts have gotten three calls late in this game on touch fouls and six subsequent free throws (granted, KG’s last foul was ticky tack).
February 5th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
50 cent is comming out with a male make-up line
February 5th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
damn, how’d pierce miss that first one?
tied, 29 seconds, helloooooo kobe
February 5th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
terrible shot by kobe. 19 foot fadeaway
gimmie a break
gotta drive t the hope, oKobe
February 5th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Haha TBL, he just made three threes before that with Pierce draped all over him.
February 5th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
terrible possession by boston (after a TO!) and kobe kept pierce out of the lane
OT !
February 5th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
oh its over, Kobe aint gonna let this one go, he’s pissed about that shot he took
February 5th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Watching PP and Kobe go at it was like watching LeBron vs Al Harrngton last night, only the exact opposite!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Kobe hasn’t played well at all, I think the Celts take this one, even w/o Garnett.
February 5th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
i must have missed those, CC. im fading in and out of sleep with the cpu on my lap. i dont know if it’ll make it through OT
February 5th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Kobe’s jumper has been offfff all night.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Ray Allen has always been one of my favorites, even if he did take mo williams spot!
kobe missed two straight threes off the back rim, both looked good.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Pau Gasol getting outrebounded by a 6 foot 6 guy. nice.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
The line is killin em
February 5th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Kobe cannot beat PP off the dribble at all tonight.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Just back from the gym and the whole place stopped to watch the end of Regulation. Wish I cared about the NBA because it looked fun.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
nice block
February 5th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
HUGE freethrow
February 5th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Honestly, sloppy game for both teams, Boston turning it over way too much, and the Lakers not hitting free throws – while Kobe’s been terrible with the exception of the late fourth.
Lakers have no interior defense whatsoever.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Degree of difficulty of 11 on that jumper for Kobe. Still worth 0 points, of course.
Lamar Odom might have made up for Chokey anyway, though.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Too bad Im not able to watch the game. This is what happens when you’re working in the middle of nowhere as a student that can’t afford cable.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
That kobe is a kchokester!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
BLOCK!!!!!!!!
February 5th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
what the hell kind of shot was that?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
That was obviously a foul on Fisher.
(I was rooting for LA. So no bias.)
February 5th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
fisher was hitting his arms before the shot even happened.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Right. They had a foul to give, and it looked like they were trying to give it.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
yeah they weren’t giving them free throws on a foul 30 feet from the basket with these teams in that situation. I question the playcall by Doc there bigtime, Ray’s not going to get his own shot off one-on-one like that.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Wouldn’t that have been the second in the last two minutes?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
I didn’t tune in until late, but I thought they asked Kobe directly about the foul to give?
February 5th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
It was the second, teh first was the trip
February 5th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Fisher fouled rondo for the first team foul (according to marv)
February 5th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Ok I think you’re right then.
But, the NBA needs to go to the one-and-one. You shouldn’t be getting two free throws on garbage fouls with the game on the line if it’s the 4th foul.. you just shouldn’t. Plus, refs don’t call fouls b/c you get two, so they swallow the whistle. I have no clue why the NBA hasn’t adopted this. IT would make games way, way more exciting down the stretch, and cause coaches to rethink their lineups completely.
February 5th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Retract everything I said. Replace it with a “Kobe sucks” and let’s call it a night.
Cavs-Lakers on Sunday.
